I missed the old football games where you could just pick a team and play — so I made one
I grew up playing games like MicroProse Soccer, Emlyn Hughes, Sensible Soccer and later Winning Eleven/PES.
What I loved was how immediate they were. Pick a team, start playing, learn the quirks, score ridiculous goals, swear at a rebound and play again.
So for roughly the last year I’ve been building my own little football game, TicTacFootball, mostly by myself.
I wasn’t trying to make a football simulation. Matches are around two minutes, controls are simple and the gameplay is physics-based. There are hundreds of national and club teams, Cups, Leagues, derbies and local multiplayer.
No cards, packs, power-ups or stat advantages. Basically: two players, one ball, put it in the net.
It’s obviously its own thing and not an attempt to remake SWOS, but Sensible Soccer and the football games I grew up with are a big part of why it exists.
I’d genuinely like to know what people here think of the gameplay — especially people who still enjoy that older pick-up-and-play style of football game.

It’s currently 25% off in the Autumn Sale, but I’m much more interested in hearing whether this kind of football game still scratches the itch for you.
