If Scary Island were to happen today…

I’m watching RHONY for the first time and loving it. Season 1 and 2 were so much fun. But season 3 was so dark, between the Bethenny and Jill breakup and Scary Island. I know Scary Island is a legendary couple of RHONY episodes, but I almost felt like I shouldn’t be watching Kelly in that state.

It got me thinking: if Scary Island were to happen today, do you think production would handle it any differently?

First time watching RHONY

After many years, I’ve decided to take the plunge and watch RHONY for the first time. I am in the middle of season 2. Here are my impressions:

  • I really love Jill. She is funny and feels familial. I had no clue that the show's beginning centers on her. But I think she’s great. Anyone who is a dog person to that degree is family to me.
  • Bethany is hilarious and such a breath of fresh air. I can see why she is a fan favorite. It is wild to see her beginning her Skinnygirl brand, Comic Sans font and all, knowing that it would become a huge success.
  • Luann surprises me. In the first two seasons, she is very prim and proper, which does not align with my understanding of her now. She presents herself like Lady Diana. She even scolded Bethany for introducing her to the driver as “Luann” 🤣
  • Alex (and Simon) are my favorites. They are so odd, quirky, and unbothered. I really think they love each other, too. It's funny and sweet to watch these two weirdos navigate this “high society” life.
  • I do not like Ramona. At all. That is all I’ll say. Her husband, Mario, is AWFUL. I do love their conservative 35-year-old twelve-year-old daughter, Avery.
  • Kelly is… perplexing. She seems out of it. I loved seeing her running in traffic. I finally have context for the meme.

Overall, it’s 10/10. I’m obsessed.
