How is opencode v2 going for you guys ? (my experience in description)

How is opencode v2 going for you guys ? (my experience in description)

While I am using opencode exclusively on my office as well as personal machines, and it has been largely working great. But little issues here and there keep breaking that experience.

I am personally facing new troubles everyday, and strongly thinking of moving to pi or maintaining a personal fork.

Listing few recent issues that I consider significant:

  1. No sandboxing in v1 as well as v2.

It moves the sandboxing effort to user, and when I have to work from multiple machines, it becomes very hectic to setup sandboxing there. Also, sandboxing outside the process brings it's own hurdles.

Moreover, a good PR was raised but closed as stale by a bot. This is trend for many issues/PRs there.

  2. Unable to setup local plugin

I hope I am doing something silly here, but trying to add local plugin is being a headache. `opencode plugin add ...` gives error on absolute as well as file: urls. The code suggests it only accepts the git & registry urls. Even adding directly to config doesn't work.

  3. broken model support

Recently, I found that the opus/sonnet 5.5 models weren't working through our gateway. Noticed that a PR exists to support this, the issue is related to adaptive thinking & blockBinding, but it is just left unattended.

  4. subagent bugs

I recently launched opencode v2 on a Arm SBC for a quick debugging. Thought of using free model and noticed that the opencode subagents are treated as non-opencode model calls. That is, when launching subagent of a free agent without logging in an account, it thinks the request is coming from non opencode app and blocks it. Even worse, the entire session is polluted and even undoing the message doesn't fix that.

Similarly, there are many small things related to usage, RAM usage, port conflict on multi user machines, etc.

I know the maintainers are putting a lot of effort as visible from the commits going into v2. As such, this post is to document my experience and know what is the experience of others ?

Some items I 3D printed during my recent trip to home

  1. A pencil box with a sliding cover

  2. Decorative bicycle, parts of the pencil box, lion and car (left to right)

  3. 2 shelf brackets being printed ( don't have a completed photo )

For those interested, all of these are downloaded items, not self-designed.

I mostly design utility items only and have built some self-designed stuff, like covers for round retro switches, curtain brackets, trimmer combs and utilities for my cycle. But unfortunately, I don't have photos of them.

Unreadable tokyonight colors for flash.nvim

I am using tokyonight theme, and white text on a pink background is very unreadable from a distance.

To solve it, I can change to catppuccin theme, but I wonder about a few things now

  • Is it normal for others too or is it something wrong with my terminal color settings, font, etc.?
  • I like the tokyonight style but want only this fixed. What could be the minimum configuration change?

Are we conscious of what r/Jammu is ?

It feels a little strange to ask such a question here. But I don't think there's a better place to ask it. So I invite only those who are interested, and apologize to everyone else.

Many people would dream of having access to a platform where they can reach hundreds or thousands of people with diverse experiences and expertise. They may be struggling with questions about their career, education, philosophy, or simply life. If they were suddenly placed in a room full of skilled engineers, accomplished entrepreneurs, curious scholars, artists, and people with years of lived experience, they would probably behave differently. They would ask questions they truly care about. They would think a little more before speaking. They would try to make good use of everyone's time.

What we have here is, in some ways, even more remarkable.

Every post and every comment becomes part of a public archive that may remain accessible for years. People connected to Jammu - living here or elsewhere in the world - can come across these conversations long after they were written. Some may be students. Others may be professionals, researchers, artists, or simply people trying to stay connected to their homeland.

When I think about that, I feel a certain responsibility in how I participate.

If I'm answering a student who's confused about something, I'll often re-read what I've written and think about whether it says what I actually intend it to say.

If I'm replying to someone's accomplishment, I feel like I should engage with it sincerely. Appreciate it, ask thoughtful questions, and encourage them to keep sharing. A meaningful conversation makes people want to return and contribute again.

If I come across a cultural post that hasn't received much attention, I try to leave at least a comment - not because every post needs praise, but because I want to encourage more people to share things that preserve and celebrate our culture.

It is because this is the kind of place I hope r/Jammu can be.

But often I wonder.

When we post a rant, a throwaway thought, a passing feeling, or something we ourselves would probably forget tomorrow, are we conscious of what r/Jammu is?

How do you plan with higher model and implement with lower model ?

Q: Many a time, we would want the main agent to be an expensive model but the subagent to be a cheaper model. How do you do that? Because I noticed that just adding this in the prompt doesn't do anything.

Context:

Just hit my weekly + monthly limits while using DeepSeek v4 Pro mostly. I was using subagents excessively with the intent of reducing long contexts, but now I realise that it is inefficient when the subagent has to explore files from the start. Still, I think I can delegate refactors to cheaper models like DeepSeek v4 Flash and let a higher model manage that. But, as I found, adding it in prompt doesn't work.
