Rumba Balenciaga

Rumba Balenciaga

This arrived today in a job lot and oh my word it is beautiful. Plum and dried fruits, marigold, gentle florals into Oakmoss. An early Jean-Claude Ellena I had never heard of!
Researching, I see that the perfume was sold on - including the packaging - to Ted Lapidus. Is that very common?
Does anyone own both versions? Id love to know how close they are.

I don’t much watch YouTube any more but I have a new favourite.

Eccentric, a real turn of phrase and she tries everything on skin which I really rate. She convinced me to wear this extraordinary Ambergris centred fragrance today. Incredibly cozy, slightly minty? And also pervasive on the skin over many hours. You can keep Samsara, I’m v much preferring MXXX.

The summer fragrance you want to wear in winter. Tropical rum cocktail in a fur coat. Way too much to actually wear in heat.

Rum, bright fruit and a textured beeswax honey note into sweet ambers and woods. Super good for seratonin. This swings very sweet and has coconut-ghost figginess to me - but it’s really beautiful AND FUN.

It’s a Bertie of course but I don’t hear this one getting much love. I’m admiring this house more and more because of its exaggeration. NG stretches a familiar form to the point of kitsch and I really connect to that. It’s art, but not too self-serious.

Testing another Rogue Perfume today Mousse Illumineé from a sample kindly sent by u/NextLevel-Fitness and it’s got my Oakmoss loving vote immediately.

Moss with almost foam like consistency, projects the tiniest amount of wintergreen camphor in a beautiful blend of pines. This is contrasted with ashy Jasmine of the type I really enjoy. It doesn’t have any lavender, but evokes barbershop with all of its being.

I love the playfulness of fusing traditional masculine and deeply feminine white floral. It’s working on a winters day, but can imagine it will wear right into late spring. For some reason it bought this image to mind.

So in love with Chypres - drop your favourites please!

Having the greatest time with my small collection of vintage and modern chypres in the crisp cold of deep winter.

It’s not vintage but the arrival of Ma Bête by Eris this week (what a beauty) made me so sad I don’t have even a drop left of Femme Rochas Parfum for comparison! Probably my closest to it is Molinard de M.

If it pleases you, do tell me your favourite Chypre fragrance and why you love it.

Thanks ☺️

Today’s finds - L.Clavel Minis & Dioressence

A beautiful gift of 10 minis from Clavel (a 50s honeymoon in Paris set if ever I saw one) which I probably won’t bother smelling- it’s all about having the continent on your dressing table n’est oas?

An Avon soft musk in the form of a pink Christmas tree. An Estée Lauder Pleasures flanker (2007) that smells of litchi and is very similar to Commodity’s Juice. Everything old is new again.

And the most joyful - a 2004 preform Dioressence EDT. As a Chypre and carnation lover I am floating in a cloud of delight. I will enjoy this 45ml or so to the last drop.

Tweed by Lenthéric - Chypre heaven

https://youtu.be/vqdtECxHxLQ?si=C0qmnT9KGGw2n7eX

I’ve got the strongest memory of the ads for this from the 70s when I was a little girl.

This came into my hands today and wow she’s pretty amazing. It opens with a soft bergamot (maybe the top note has gone slightly) and then develops into a beautiful ylang, lavender and jasmine heart. A little too much lavender for my taste.

Then there’s the oakmoss - Lord just so much oakmoss. It’s wonderful at this strength, very nicely balanced with hidden benzoin/vanilla. I detect a small amount of patchouli too.

It could easily be by Rogue today. I would love to smoke a cigarette wearing this as ash and jasmine is always great. It feels somehow appropriate, but those days are over!
