I held off on posting this one until there was a good variety of articles to choose from. The tone of this one is very respectful of his victims and doesn't feel exploitative, but it's still a very difficult read that touches on a wide variety of disturbing topics.
This is not a new accusation, and he is not in jail. I guess there was an original article that didn't have all the facts and caused some confusion, so you might have heard a different version of events earlier.
It is still up on Facebook, but I noticed that it didn't come up if you searched for her name in this subreddit. I thought that needed to be fixed.
TW: SA
Alex Formenton, former World Junior hockey player, was among the players acquitted of horrific SA of a young woman last year. Formenton has been signed to a one year contract with the Edmonton Oilers. He is the only player of the group not under a Hockey Canada ban.
Oilers superfan Mary Loewen, known as Mama Stanley, has launched a petition to call for the Oilers to reverse the signing. “Although he was acquitted in court, I cannot ignore my conscience or what this decision represents to me,” Loewen’s post read. “As a sexual assault survivor, I must stand by my morals and stand with the woman at the centre of this case.”
I stand with the survivor EM, Mama Stanley, and all survivors of SA.
