Just wanted to share a positive experience for the weekend away I just had, ahh where do I start.

In this age in Australia as we know Grindr has been dying in recent years, and is pretty much almost dead in late 2026 (which i think is sad as I actually did well on there meeting new people but anyways), being the humans we are who crave social interaction, I decided it was time to try something new - the classic gay bar. I’m late 20s myself.

So out I went on Saturday night and hit up a highly rated gay bar in the city I was in. It was busy in there, half of the space had been converted to a dance floor, other half had some bench seats against the wall overlooking some Pool tables. The crowd was a mix of mostly (gay?) guys, but a few lesbian couples and straight couples too but they were the minority. What was a huge positive was although there was music to dance to, it wasn’t overwhelmingly loud so you could still hear each other just by talking louder than usual.

I grab a drink take a seat on one of these bench seats near this couple of guys (in their late 30s I estimate) sitting on the bench right next to mine. They were having banter with each other. I guessed not a couple but just more friends which was confirmed later anyway.

I quietly sat by myself there, observing the game of pool being played, as well as the atmosphere around me. I should probably also make a key point that likely made a huge difference in my experience - I kept phone time absolutely minimal. My look arounds occasionally glanced at the couple next to me - one of the guys was standing while the other guy was sitting and I could see in my side vision he was occasionally eyeing me.

While I was trying to muster up the courage to say hi, fortunately, he went and did it for me and said hi. We introduced ourselves to each other. As said earlier, they were two (gay) friends together, not a couple, we were chatting and really hitting it off. There was some sexual chemistry there too, it was very subtle but I felt it, it was a nice feeling. Time flew just us 3 sitting/standing there chatting and getting drinks, and sure enough it was soon 1:30am and I was tired so I decided to call it a night, we gave our goodbyes with a hug.

My only regret? That I didn’t ask them for their contact numbers to stay in touch. My other mate I told this story to said I should’ve just invited them back to my hotel for oral but I can’t tell if he was joking, I think he probably was.

Anyways to round off, an experience like this really gave me a confidence boost and even if nothing really happened, it was just so nice to go out on a Saturday night, solo, and just…. Not be alone. Have really been in a good mood for the rest of the weekend!
