Can someone explain how being a “travel RT” works?

  1. How far does a travel RT have to travel to be considered a travel RT? Are we talking around the country or around the state? Or around a city?
  2. How many times a week/month/year do you have to travel to be considered a travel RT?
  3. What’s housing like? Do you live in hotels? Are they paid for?
  4. Can you design your own travel route to make anything more familiar feeling? Seems like a lot of uproar and change if you are constantly walking into a new hospital/or other environment to work.

I have a family and I’m trying to just understand if being a travel RT is an option or not.
Thank you for your help!!
Those are all I got.

Last round up of questions before I decide to do program or not!

Hey good people,
Thanks for your work as a Surgery Tech.
Basically I need to know a few questions:

  1. Is there a lot of leaning and bending with being a surg tech? Please explain.
  2. I hear that some jerky surgeons can ruin days. This sucks but I can only imagine. Are there any resources a ST can utilize to complain? Or is that “no-no” territory. Seems corrupt if a ST doesn’t have anywhere to complain to about a surgeons poor treatment to others.
  3. Im 40 years old with 3 young kids. What are the hours and shifts? How common is on-call?
  4. How monotonous is the job? Is it boring? I like things to be somewhere in the middle of tedious and chaotic.
  5. On a scale to 1-10, how much do you like your job? If you don’t like it, what causes that and what could be better?

Thanks for your valued time! Be well

Prereqs for RT program are tiring me out! Seeking validation/support.

Hi all. I’m a mom of 3 young kids and very super slowly I’m trying to get my prerequisites done. But for every prerequisite, I have to pass like 1 or 2 more classes before the class I need. Like Anatomy and Physiology 1&2…I have to pass a college biology class. And for statistics I have to pass TWO classes before that. I failed the ALEKS test and I’m just so fatigued with trying to find the time to retake that test. So I guess I’ll just spend more time and money on taking the math fundemntal class and college prep class before stafistics. I swear I’m a really smart person but yeah with kids, not having much time to go to class let alone do it online and math not being my strongest suite- I’m just absolutely beside myself. If I do manage to accomplish these classes and considering how much time it will take, then I will have the time to do the RT program bec my youngest will be in kindergarten in 2-3 years. But I’m a still a mom that needs to do drop off and pick up so maybe this RT idea is too ambitious and not realistic? Wow anyone else feeling the same or went through similar struggles? I would be a great RT. But damnnn.
Alright thank you for what you do as RTs.

Zyrtec caused me weight gain

Please read and I’d love your thoughts/input. Thank you!
I’d heard the relationship between H1 antihistamines and weight gain, but a couple of years ago when I needed to control my asthma, I sought to Zyrtec daily. For two years I routinely took it with Montekulast. I’m a mom of three young kids and I kept blaming the weight gain (30 lbs in 2 years) on stress from mom life. I was eating more but whenever I’d track and relax for months, my weight only went UP. Then I realized that maybe, just maybe Zyrtec was the cause of this. So, I stopped. Not only have I lost 5 lbs in the first week, but I feel very anxious and am needing my inhalers much more. So, I’m frustrated bec I really need to breathe. My asthma and allergies are actually weird bec my IGE is consistently only 2 and my eosinophils are low. I hardly tested positive to oak tree pollen but everything else was negative. So, I don’t qualify for biologics except Tezspire. Tried it and it worked but caused immense low back pain(it’s the main sideeffect). So what do I do? My body feels much more alive. But yeah- more wheezing and shortness of breath without my buddy zyrtec.
