new to FIV, need proactive care advice

so about 2 weeks ago i trapped a feral guy that had warmed up to me and made my stoop his. he has FIV but I have a room he can live in separate from my other 4 cats (they fight and bite a lot). the vet didn’t tell me much besides to get blood work done about every 6 months.

they think he’s about 5 based on plaque buildup on his teeth. I’ve seen that dental issues can be big for FIV cats, what can I do to help him? he’s definitely not comfortable enough yet for brushing his teeth. what’s a good food brand for oral health and is there anything else i can do?

what other steps should i take to be proactive about his health? i’m just so happy he’s finally inside and relieved he doesn’t also have FeLV, i figured he probably had FIV given how many fights he got in outside. he’s in good health right now and i want to give him the best, longest life possible

officially looking for name ideas starting with a B for male cats!

i’ve been trying to trap and trap train Babyboy with his extreme coughing and leg injury but he’s very trap shy. finally reached out to my local SPCA tnr hotline yesterday. had a drop trap and back opening trap within 24 hours with a full irl explanation (this afternoon) i’d always seen stuff saying using a drop trap takes experience. thorough experienced advice made it so doable. waited for him for 6 hours cuz the neighborhood was loud tn. trapped him within 5 min of him showing up (+10 min for the transfer from the drop trap to the trap). have an appointment with a vet in the area tomorrow morning. no neuter scheduled cuz of his cough plus lil homie is a pet now and the SPCA said they’ll still do reduced cost neuter. (i can pet him, when he sees me he meows and runs to me - universe is saying this is my cat)

i figured they were too busy to help during kitten season and i was so wrong

now i’m 24 with 5 cats and a stoop free to trap more for tnr so there’s no more kittens in my neighborhood!!

take home: try your local spca, they were so happy to help and fast to answer

second pic is the only interaction he’d have with a standard trap, 1st is him in a bathroom being so good waiting for our 9:30 appointment tmr.

i’ve been trying to trap him for a week. i think im gonna try to make him my son cuz i can pet him and such but he’s sick now so it’s fairly urgent. he has an infection on his leg, a tick on his head and today when he tried to meow it was just wheezing that came out

i feel like i need someone more experienced in trapping to physically help me or give specific guidance and idk where to find that in my area. he doesn’t like fish, he does like rotisserie chicken. i think covering the trap made him unaware that’s where the chicken is (and that it’s the trap he’s been avoiding) i’ve heard some people say kfc works

i care sm abt him and just wanna get him help.
