Some locations going to 8GB Max Ram

Hopefully later tonight, if not tomorrow (Tests ongoing), we will be pushing some changes that allow some locations to have 8GB Ram maximum.

The first locations will be Germany, Australia and Canada.

We will review the data in a month or so and decide whether to push the rest up.

8GB is likely to be the absolute maximum for any location ever with TierHive.

This is part of testing what 'should' be arbitrary planned Beta changes now so we have less to deal with when we move to Beta.

New York is live

New York is live and available, it's the second of our new test locations, they are stable and not going anywhere but we are starting them off small to not risk overstretching on capacity on locations that sound great but are not popular.

This lets us keep single and uniform predictable low pricing.

Japan reboot and extended capacity

We have had to reboot Japan for security patching and also took the opportunity to extend the capacity at the same time so the location should be more generally available for creating servers now.

TierHive in the big apple - New York - coming soon! (And japan update)

We are going to be doubling capacity in Japan and deploying a new TierHive location in New York.

We had hoped to do so in Hong Kong or Seoul next but this is just how it worked out.

Hey... I'm walking here!

TierHive Tokyo is live

Just a quick announcement: it's live, max disk is 20GB, updates on the main https://tierhive.com site have also been done, showing limitations of certain locations more clearly.

TierHive - TOKYO!!!!!

Working on it; this will be the first of a set of test locations, hopefully releasing within 7 days.

We thought hard about how to do the more expensive locations and every way we look has a financial or fairness blocker so we are going to add a 2nd tier of locations to test things out.

These locations (working name Tier 2 locations) will not allow you to migrate IN from other none Tier 2 locations to prevent resource abuse.

Initially, the limits may also be lower: 1 vCPU, 2GB Ram 25GB disk ete, etc. This will allow us to grow these more expensive regions slowly; they won't be included in static hosting but will get HAProxy and where possible IPv6.

You will be able to migrate Tier 2 location VPS between other Tier 2 locations, though.

First will be Tokyo, Japan, then we hope to do Hong Kong and Seoul, South Korea.

The VPS creation flow might change slightly as a result, but we will try to make it as clear as possible.

Free credit is back on registration

We have made some improvements to the free credit, and it is back. We now only give enough so you can realistically test things for a few hours, not weeks or months.

This gives people the chance to actually test things instead of just getting free service.

We will see how it goes.

More resources added to Singapore.

Extra resources added to singapore.load balancers will only be adding to the new compute resources for a while, if you want a second SG IP or want to destroy and recreate.

All locations impact - reboots

We have to reboot everything to apply the patching for the latest CVE which impacts KVM

Unavoidable sorry, expect massive disruption between now and Sunday basically, we are going to do one location at a time to try and keep some order if possible.

Announcement on the dashboard will be updated as we go.

All I can say scheduling wise is that we are probably starting with Paris as it has the least users.

We will do our best to make sure your previous state (running or shut down) is restored but cannot guarantee it.

During any downtime you only pay for storage not compute 1GB = 0.00002 tokens per hour.

TierHive is no longer providing free credit on sign up & other changes.

From today (3rd June 2026), we have stopped providing free credit on sign-up and a $3 minimum top up will be needed.

We are not saying it will never come back, it was always intended to be an incentive to try it out but the reality is the abuse levels are now causing to many issues for us and paying users.

We are going to have some internal conversations and make some changes, we have been very customer-led so far, and tried to accommodate a lot, probably more than we should have, given that we are a small team and TierHive is not our only priority.

We are probably also going to scale back to 10 locations, with Paris and the Netherlands being dropped. We will look to replace the Netherlands ASAP, and stand up Strasbourg to replace Paris, but we need to find the right provider. We utterly failed when selecting OneProvider/Scaleway, and it's a failure I am taking quite personally. I should have known better.

TierHive Canada down.

TierHive Canada is down, IPMI is not responding, IPMI reset is not responding, rescue mode times out, and every function on the web UI times out related to the server, including power, so it is assumed to be a full hardware failure.

Intervention requested. Updates will follow as they become available, but I dont expect it to be quick.

Canada has been removed from static hosting CNAME pool.

New location - Paris - coming soon!

We tried to roll out Tokyo today, but the hardware was a big let-down, it just would not have been viable, even for TierHive.

My new location finger was itchy and this was the best deal on offer, france is incredibly popular (which was a surprise) so why not :)

ISO over https is live

ISO Mounting is now available.

Other info:

The system will follow a maximum of 3 redirects, the ISO must ultimately provide a 200 response, and the web server must support HTTP Range requests, supported in HTTP/1.1 since around 1997, but some ultra-simple web servers still don't, and some mirrors block it by design.

  • VALID https is expected.
  • ISO's are streamed using this block-on-demand method.
  • We allow up to 2 ISO's to be mounted
  • 2nd ISO slot is handy for drivers and as a secondary data source for some iPXE or netboot.xyz installations and probably other reasons I can't think of.
  • Your IO is limited on your main disk while an ISO mount is active, and ISO's that are mounted for 48 hours are forcefully removed by the backend. This is to avoid ISO mount as a permanent network storage method.
  • No I won't help you install Windows.

ISO over https coming soon

UI will look a bit different as the screenshots are from the sandpit version and from the admin area UI but essentially that's how it will work.

End user UI work is being done now/tomorrow morning and then we will push into live.

Any feedback on Kansas?

I know Kansas was not doing well for a while, is there any feedback since we resolved that with more capacity?

TierHive - PRICE CHANGES!!!!

Who assumed a price hike? Gotcha!!!

We now only charge for storage when you shut down a VPS, compute resources are no longer billed for when a VPS is stopped.

There will be some slight crossover on the first hour, we cant do anything about that as its been on then off and the point in time the hourly billing is done, but on the whole if you are doing a few hours a day of development or weekend development or game server on demand.. that is going to save you a lot! while also helping us keep resources free for peak times.

We are testing this for a month or so but its not likley to revert.

TierHive Pages - Static Hosting - NEW SERVICE - Now Live

Around 6 weeks later than planned, and with fewer features than we wanted the static hosting is now alive on TierHive

To use it, you simply need to have made a payment, ever, once, and you will have access to the free tier for the life of the product, so that's a $3 minimum for life-long self-replicating geo-distributed load-balanced static hosting, and you also get to use that $3 of credit on anything else in the panel anyway.

The free tier gives you 25MB space (in every location), standard zones and up to 3 locations per zone and 1000 files.

The paid tier is $0.000040 per 100MB per hour or part thereof, and gets 10000 files and access to the global zone, which will automatically add all available zones new and old, as TierHive grows.

We have load-balanced all locations with auto-failover to other locations and done our best to do closest zone routing for end users for the fastest ttfb.

We also have a default page that will load for your domains if you just want to warm them up while giving us that backlink. It is basic but engineered to score 100 on all metrics on Pagespeed.

Space is calculated globally per zone, so if you have 10MB in 3 locations in 1 zone, that is considered 10MB

Have your micro instance manage your static buildout/export/git and push to static hosting

Notes:

- There may be bugs. Please remember that all of TierHive is in Alpha.

- This is not Cloudflare static hosting; we are just trying to offer a simple alternative.

- This is a service intended to complement the overall TierHive offer, we already provide VPS which is why we decided not to include git build/actions if you need that and cant manage it via a VPS that pushes to your static hosting account, you probably should be using Cloudflare.

- Access to static hosting is via key only; we do not and will not allow password-based authentication.

- I understand there are now a few people selling voucher codes via billing > vouchers for TierHive due to georesrictions or to enable crypto payments for people (which is all fine), please make sure these users understand voucher use does not give access to the free tier.

- Sign up numbers are going to be closely monitored and may be turned off and on a lot like we did when TierHive first launched, either for bug fix or capacity.

- It runs on IPv4 only.
