Hey everyone, looking for some advice. I'm moving on to a Tesla Model Y and trying to figure out the best way to part with my Jetta.
Here's what I'm working with:
Tesla offered me $12.5k on trade-in, and VW came in at $10k (lol). I feel like the car is worth more than both of those offers but I've never sold a car privately before.
Worth noting — California doesn't give you a sales tax credit on trade-ins, so there's no tax advantage to trading in vs. selling private here. That makes me lean toward trying to get more on my own if the difference is significant enough.
For those of you who've sold yours private party — was it worth the hassle? How long did it take, and what did you end up getting? Trying to figure out if the extra effort is worth it over just taking Tesla's offer and calling it a day.
