Moonridge Drivers
I’m sure y’all are great bad asses who know these roads like the back of your hands and can navigate them with your eyes closed while your speed around like Big Bear is between Paris and Dakar.
But for the love of god, drive on your side of the street! Some of us have a plan to stay alive and in one piece. Thanks.
Ps. While I’m here, if someone is already at a round about they have the right of way, no matter what street you’re coming from.
Solo trip to Big Bear (1-2 weeks) Need Recommendations
Hi everyone, so I (f, solo) am planning on coming up to Big Bear for the first time and spending a week or two up there.
I would love some recommendations on what to do and where to go. I’m currently moving between places and have 2 weeks in between, so I decided to spend them in the mountains.
I do hike alone sometimes, but are there groups I could join to hike with while I’m there?
What’s the lake like? Are there area for us to go swimming in casually? Or would I need to be a part of a group?
Any recommendations would be highly appreciated!
Thank you in advance!!
Places to watch fireworks in Moonridge?
Have a cabin up here and would rather try to avoid the insane traffic if possible. Was thinking of venturing up to the base of Bear Mountain. Thoughts on whether that would provide a decent view of the show?
Moonridge resident dumped gravel on the village bike path
A little while ago I had an interaction with the homeowner who owns the house and empty space adjacent to the Moonridge Room. He was extremely upset at me with my small dog off leash despite the fact I pick him up and push past on my skateboard any time another dog comes within a 50 foot radius to make sure he has zero off leash interactions with unfamiliar dogs, though he is perfectly friendly. It's not like a dog can't bolt the second the owner happens to get distracted, at least with the skateboard he can't get enough of a head start for me not to catch up.
His response was to dump bags of gravel on the bike and sidewalk path, and harass me for a few days until he realized it wasn't gonna make me stop doing my evening dog walk/cruise i've been doing almost every day for the past couple years. His adult son also harassed me and admitted they dumped the rocks while saying it's not illegal, (bare minimum it's illegal dumping or littering if not a violation of some ordinance regarding obstruction of public sidewalks that most towns would have)
He seems to have given up on that, but i'm wondering who to contact from the city to get this safety hazard taken care of. It's not a small amount of gravel by any means, it's enough that if an elderly disabled person was walking and happened to lose footing they'd have lacerations all over their body from landing on it.
I've attempted to blow it back on his property with leaf blowers, but I borrowed them from friends but the batteries died each time before i could finish. I think ultimately the city would want to take care of it if they knew since there's a potential liability for injuries, which should fall on the homeowner, but likely they would go after the city since they have deeper pockets.
New Fire behind Alpine Slide area
FYI. Helicopters already circling it.
Big Bear Watersports Park
My son and I had a great time at the float park! Definitely recommend!
Rodents chewing car wires — how do you prevent it in Big Bear?
Hey locals — what do you do to prevent rodents from getting into your engine bay and damaging your car?
My girlfriend and I moved to Big Bear in early June, and so far we’ve loved it up here, even with the occasional power outages.
Unfortunately, we just had a pretty major issue. Our place doesn’t have a garage or covered parking, and my girlfriend’s brand-new 4Runner suddenly stopped working. We had to get it towed all the way down to the dealership in San Bernardino, where they found that some of the wiring had been chewed through by a rodent.
For those of you who park outside, is there anything that actually works to prevent this? Peppermint spray, lights, electronic deterrents, opening the hood, traps around the parking area, or anything else?
Has anyone else dealt with this regularly up here? I see plenty of cars parked outdoors without garages, so I’m wondering what the locals do.
Nothing like the drive up to big bear 🌲🫶
This account will be my excuse to capture more moments like these. I’ve always struggled with appreciating life as it’s happening and I’m hoping by making this new account, it will motivate me to do so. So I’m sorry if you’ve seen this video before!

ktla.comGreat show Big Bear!
Thank you, Big Bear and BBMR, for a cool free show! Awesome riders, skaters, and concert! I remembered more Alien Ant Farm songs than I thought!
July 3rd traffic from IE
First time going to Big Bear for Independence Day. I already know it's going to be insanely busy and traffic will be horrendous and gridlocked the day of..
Does anyone have an idea of how bad it would be going up the mountain the night before? We were hoping to head out to our cabin after 6pm on Friday night.
How’s the road to Bluff Lake Reserve?
Will you be okay taking a suv there?
Power outage
We came up for the weekend and the power went out. Read that it could be out for the next 3 days?! Is this normal up here? It said it will start around 12 pm but it’s out already. Any idea if the power will be restored?
List All Economical Disadvantages of Big Bear
This post is not a slight against Big Bear.
It's for people on a tight budget and considering the move to Big Bear due to low rents.
I've read a few posts already, and it seems so far that the biggest negatives are:
- Outages which can be solved by having generators
- Tourists slam which can be solved by just hanging out at the house
- Winter driving which can be solved by having a AWD
However, the budget is so tight, that I want to know what else I need to know.
For example the AWD - we don't have one, and not sure if we have room in our budget for buying an older one or leasing one.
A lot of houses that have low rents don't seem to have a garage and their houses are already furnished. It's a disadvantage if you don't want to store your current furniture at storage because that brings in another monthly cost.
Talk to me, people, locals, expats, visitors, etc, please! I want all points of views.
Thank you!
EDIT: wanted to add the following information.
- we wanted to be able to ski in winter and were thinking of buying used skis for this
- hoping to boat in summer so to speak and was thinking of buy a used small motor boat, you know the small metallic one with the visible motor in back and absolutely no shade at all?
- I have absolutely no experience in driving in snow, but my husband knows how to drive in snow
Basically, our budget is so tight that we were hoping to take advantage of the nature of Big Bear and some physical activities but not joking that our budget is super tight ...
20-somethings in Big Bear
hi everyone! being new in town.. where where are all of the 20 somethings hanging out? I've heard a lot about hiking groups and bars, do any of them have a younger demographic? im looking for some friends here! thanks
Any good July 4th weekend evening activities in Big Bear?
friends saw something about a Led Zeppelin cover band but of course I can't find anything. Regardless: we are looking for fun things to do on July 3rd for a few adults desperately in need of time away from children. What are the best websites for event listings?
July 4: we're assuming all the focus is on the waterfront but open to tips!
Captain John's 💚
I have so many fond memories of summers at Captain John's & he's still sharing that with kids and families to this day. Just look at that water, it doesn't get better!
Do you ever make it over to the north shore?
