Lunch spot recommendations

I am wanting to show my wife Big Bear and escape the 100° heat of the IE today. It has been years since I have been up there and was curious if anyone has any suggestions for a nice lunch stop we can have an afternoon date at before I show her the water and trees?

For those who live around the lake, do you guys just sit there on your porch and take in this beautiful gift every evening?

Does anyone else feel that this is just a PR stunt ?

The yuhaaviatam ( San Manuel tribe) could have easily completed the 5.5 million dollar donation needed to save moon camp, yet they didn’t. The co founders of CHATGPT had to step up, read that again - an AI company had to do what the tribe that supposedly cares and pertains to this land would not and did not. They have never once posted about the goal of donations and I almost guarantee that if the boat slips and luxury houses would have moved forward with construction, it would be members of the tribe themselves that would have bought the properties. It feels only as if they saw how viral this was becoming and decided to make themselves relevant by including themselves in the conversation. Don’t believe me ? See for yourself how members of the tribe choose to spend their money. (I can post IG links)

Donkeys 🩷

I love that there is still a little bit of wild nature in Big Bear. Absolutely beautiful, IMHO.

Boat share!

Hi! Looking to buy a new boat that I was going to go in half with a friend, but he had to pull out last minute for personal reasons. Still want to buy the boat but don’t really want to take on the full price solo. Was thinking about renting out the boat here and there to offset some of my cost! I would captain it, but could take up to 15 people (legally) probably 10 comfortably. It’s a surf boat, so you can wakeboard, surf, or tube on it as well. Just wanted to see if there is any demand or interest for something like this in big bear?

Help!

Hi!

We’re planning a family trip to Big Bear from December 23–27. There will be 15 of us, including 5 kids (the oldest is 15 years old).

We came across a TikTok saying that there’s usually little or no snow during that time, and we wanted to ask if that’s generally true based on your experience.
We have a few questions:

- What are the snow conditions typically like during those dates?
- If there isn’t much natural snow, are there still snow play areas or activities for kids?
- Do you have any recommendations for activities or things we shouldn’t miss with a large family?

We’d really appreciate any feedback or tips. Thank you!

For everyone hurting over Jackie today — I hope this brings a little comfort ❤️🦅

Today is a hard one for everyone who spent years checking in on Jackie and Shadow.
She never knew our names, but somehow we all knew hers.
We watched the snow, the eggs, the heartbreak, the babies, the fledges, and all those ordinary mornings when you’d turn on the camera just to see what Jackie was doing.
Sandy gave us that window into their world and reminded us that we were observers of nature. We couldn’t choose how Jackie’s story would end. We were simply incredibly lucky that we got to witness so much of it.
This song is meant to remember the joy Jackie brought us, not just the sadness we’re feeling today.
If you listened to Wings of Big Bear or She’s Still Here, I hope this one brings you some comfort too.
The camera gave us a window. Jackie gave us the view.
We were just lucky enough to watch. ❤️🦅
We’ll Never Forget You, Jackie.

Uber/Lyft on the mountain

Hi all! I will be up in Big Bear over Labor Day weekend and was curious how reliable Uber/Lyft is for short rides in town in the evening? I’m throwing a bachelorette and trying to think ahead on how to get the group back to our cabin without needing to take our own cars. Open to any reliable alternatives to Uber/Lyft as well. Thanks in advance!

Wind Lips/Jumps at Big Bear

I grew up skiing in Tahoe, and recently moved to SoCal for work. I have never skiid big bear, but going to be my home mountain this winter. I did not get much skiing last winter, and want to get backflips in the park this season. However, I have only ever done them on wind lips/backcountry jumps. I want to get comfortable before I throw it on a hard packed jump in the park. I am curious if there are any natural wind lips/jumps that are more forgiving. Squaw has a famous one right under the siberia chair and a few more on the alpine side where I learned. Just want to know big bear has anything similar

Do people swim in the lake? And if so where is best?

Visiting for the weekend. Drove around a couple spots just to find either no swimming signs, pretty gnarly algae, or only hours of 11-4pm, and had to pay to swim. I’m fine with paying to swim but was hoping to find a place where we could just pull off after a hike, dunk in the water and head back to our cabin.

If anyone knows of where that’s possible, and safe/clean, I’d really appreciate it!
