Previous generation of Nutmegs babies
Its 90 some degrees out. Normally all the squirrels are chasing each other. One was splooted out here and we saw the other coming up and figured it would be the same thing but they have been splooted face to face for quite awhile now.
Judging from the size and the fact that these are the ones still hanging around our pergola, these must be Nutmegs babies from earlier this year.
Took a few pictures because of our window screens not giving great picture clarity.
Opossums in the squirrel house
We have had this squirrel house in our maple tree for a couple years. About a week ago we noticed some birds using it. Then the birds disappeared. Maybe this is why lol.
You can clearly see one inside the house while another was up top. I am assuming they have decided this is their new home because they came in and out several times over night.
Nutmeg and her new litter of babies....in our mailbox
No pics yet..they are definitely newborn. Some of you will recognize my account from her last litter and the baby videos.
Went out to get the mail and saw her head hanging out. She came out to greet me...looked inside and in the back newborn babies.
Went inside and made a sign so the mail delivery people are aware. When i was taping it up I think she thought it was nesting material since she kept trying to grab it from me.
Im hoping she'll decide to move them. While its cute and amusing...there are much better nursery locations lol.
Britny Fox - "Hair of The Dog"
I wasn't a huge Britny Fox fan, but this is one of my favorite classic rock covers ever. Dizzy's vocals were perfect for this. And of course...more cowbell.
Thought I’d give an update on my wife’s THR saga in case it helps anyone dealing with something similar.
She had her original hip replacement about 2 years ago, and over that time had 3 dislocations, almost exactly 6 months apart. The first one was clearly a bad position, she was on the floor and got up awkwardly. But the 2nd and 3rd were from really minor movements while sitting, one in a chair and one just on the edge of the bed. That’s when it started to feel like something wasn’t right.
Her original surgeon retired right after the surgery, so we didn’t get much help there. The next surgeon we saw basically took the stance that she was just one of the unlucky ones this happens to and wouldn’t even entertain a revision, which was frustrating.
We eventually found another surgeon who actually took a closer look and was willing to go in. Going into surgery, he thought there might be some misalignment of the components, which could have meant a full revision. He said that would be a pretty involved process with a lot of work to remove everything. The alternative, depending on what he found, was possibly using a constrained liner.
Once he got in there, he said everything looked pretty well aligned, especially the stem. But even with slight inward movement, the hip would dislocate almost immediately. He tried swapping just the ball and tested it again, and it was still unstable. At that point he went with the constrained liner, and said once it was in, everything locked in well and was as stable as he would expect. He wasn’t able to dislocate it during testing.
He did also clean up some scar tissue during the procedure as well.
What was expected to be a 4-hour surgery ended up being about 2 hours since he didn’t have to replace all the components.
He did make it clear that even with the liner, dislocation is still technically possible with enough force, and there will likely be some loss in range of motion. But given where she was before, this already feels like a big step in the right direction.
We’re about a week out from surgery now, so still early in recovery, but so far it’s been a smoother process than we were expecting, especially compared to what a full revision might have looked like.
We still see the others around and Nutmeg of course. But one of her babies was living in the maple tree house but has since moved into one of the small pergola houses.
