My second infusion for chronic pain worked well. My third infusion gave me no lasting relief. Is this normal and part of the process?
I've had three ketamine infusions for my fibromyalgia /myofascial pain syndrome over the last 4 months. The first one didn't do anything but it was a very low dose to start to make sure I didn't have a poor reaction. My second infusion was slightly higher and I had literally no pain for 10 minutes after. Then I had reduced pain levels for about 3 weeks (from averaging around 6-8 out of 10, down to 3-6) which helped me get into a more consistent routine weight lifting which always makes me feel better if I have the energy to do it. My depression was much better as I had some hope again and I felt much happier and energetic overall.
I just had my third infusion on Wednesday at a slightly higher dose than the second one and this time I'm not noticing a difference at all. I'm actually in a flare that is the worst I've had since my second infusion. Is it normal to have varying degrees of relief, especially after one infusion worked so well? Now I'm worried that my relief after my second infusion was placebo or something. My husband disagrees as he said he saw a huge difference in me but I don't know.
I'm back to feeling really depressed because I'm starting to have that sense of hopelessness again. Having a taste of being in less pain and now being back in a flare is really hard to cope with.
Ketamine infusion worked on my second infusion, now on my third and no difference in pain.
