If no one in your family works in that field, and you don’t have referrals or guidance, how do you break in?

What actually helped you get your first job?

I’m a recent B.Tech Computer Science graduate from India (graduated 2 months ago) and I’m interested in becoming a Cloud / DevOps engineer.

Right now I’m learning towards it. I’ve seen many people say DevOps is not an entry-level field and that freshers should avoid it, which has made me confused.

I don’t have work experience yet.

I’d really appreciate honest advice from people already working in cloud, DevOps, SRE, or infrastructure roles.

1. Is aiming for DevOps as a fresher realistic, or should I target adjacent roles first?

2. What skills should I prioritize over the next 6 months? (Linux, Python, Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, Terraform, networking, etc.)

3. Should I spend the next 6 months studying full-time and then apply, or start applying now while studying?

4. What job titles should I search for as a fresher?

5. Long term, I’m interested in moving abroad (possibly UAE/Dubai or other countries with good opportunities). Is that realistic after gaining some experience?Allso is it a good idea to move some other countries tmfor jobseeking as a fresher?

I’m looking for practical advice, roadmap suggestions, and reality checks both encouraging and critical feedback are welcome.
