Is CPMC better, equally bad, or worse than UCSF ER?

Has anyone experienced any or both? Any pro tips on finding the best ER and inpatient care?

Advice navigating hospitalization and urgent orthopedic care

My partner is in the unfortunate position where chronic nerve pain turned unmanageable. We’re currently hospitalized under pain medicine at UCSF but every day feels like there’s more deterioration and weakening of normal functions such as sitting, standing, sleep, and eating. We’re in a situation where we know surgery is the only option for relief.

The catch 22 is, we cannot be prioritized for in patient surgery and we cannot get discharged to pursue outpatient surgery. Not to mention the long delays and uncertainty at UCSF amongst ourselves and staff.

Does anyone have advice or experience navigating urgent orthopedic care? What support can I reasonably ask for? What should we expect?

It’s cervical, which I know adds complexity.

I reached the last of my retainers and the doctor had me come in days after I should have already switched to new liners. (She was on vacation the week before). We finally did another scan for my next set of liners which I’m told take another 2-3 weeks to be delivered. I’m now in the same retainers for a month and counting, just waiting for a text that my trays are delivered.

Is this common or am I being taken advantage of?
