Has anyone successfully tweaked SMR protocol after adverse reactions?

I had a trial neurofeedback session, SMR at C4-A1, which caused abnormal, increased anxiety over the next day. I’m interested in trying neurofeedback but am concerned about worsening symptoms, which doesn’t seem uncommon based on stories I’ve read.

I’m seeing a lot of stories from people who have had increased anxiety from SMR, which did not improve after tweaking the protocol or even switching practitioners.

Has anyone had a similar reaction to SMR but successfully tweaked the protocol and saw improvement afterward? I know you can theoretically lower the frequency, lower the reward threshold, etc. but I’m curious can confirm they personally did this successfully with their practitioner. I had a pretty abnormal and strong reaction to what is supposed to be a standard protocol after 1 session so just concerned. Trying to get rid of my symptoms of hyperarousal/insomnia/pmdd.

Neurofeedback for central sensitization

I’ve developed what I think is broad central sensitization from alcohol kindling (I think it caused me to have glutamatergic excitability, aka a hyperexcitable brain and nervous system). So I developed severe sleep issues, anxiety, dysautonomia, intolerance to many medications, and symptoms of PMDD as my nervous system can no longer handle fluctuations of hormones and chemicals in my body. This has been going on for 4 months with no improvement.
I’m looking into neurofeedback to help reverse this or reregulate my brain. I’m worried my newly developed PMDD / intolerance to my own hormones will prevent me from having a child some day, so I’m desperate to get better.
I’ve gotten better twice before. This is the third time it has come up. Each time has taken longer to resolve (hence the kindling) — one week, then 3-4 weeks, and now it has been over four months but with no improvement. My current state seems to have gotten stuck somehow.

Do you think neurofeedback can help? And standard (qeeg guided) protocols would apply here? I’m considering a place called Brain Wellness Center in the Bay Area

Has anyone tried neurofeedback?

I’ve developed what I think is broad central sensitization from alcohol kindling. So I developed sleep issues, anxiety, dysautonomia, intolerance to medications, and symptoms of PMDD as my nervous system can no longer handle fluctuations of hormones and chemicals in my body. This has been going on for 4 months with no improvement.
I’m curious if anyone has tried treatments like neuromodulation (TMS or neurofeedback) to reverse / treat sensitization? Or any other methods that seem to help, if the root cause of the sensitization is no longer in the picture?
