CMV: Men blame women for the pressure to be “manly,” but men are the ones judging each other.
I’m a guy, and I’m so tired of seeing men complain about how women are the reason they have to be so "manly" and carry all these responsibilities. The reality is that society’s rigid expectations for men were created by men, not women.
My view is that men are pointing the blame at the wrong target:
- Men judge other men, all the time. Women aren't running around stressing over when a guy lost his virginity. But if a guy is a 25yr old virgin? Other guys will absolutely dog him for it. The pressure to have the best job, the most money, or the most status comes almost entirely from other dudes judging them.
- Women don't need men for survival lol. Historically, women were forced to rely on men. Today, women don't need men. More and more women realize they can be totally independent, and honestly, with modern science, they don't even need a man to have babies. They don't need us for survival anymore. They just want a good partner.
- It's also about insecurity. Grown men are completely capable of unlearning these toxic expectations. Instead of doing the work to change, a lot of guys just get insecure and blame women for the pressure they feel.
To be clear so no one twists my words: I am NOT saying masculinity is a negative thing. There is nothing wrong with being a man. But guys need to stop blaming women for the rules that men invented.
Stop projectng, stop the misogyny, and just focus on being a good person.
Change my view.
