Retirement?

I know these captains have been doing crab fishing since they were teens -
But considering that Phil Harris literally died on board, Sig has had a couple of heart attacks and told to give up smoking - and hasn't, Keith has has some serious health issues, Monte too.
Even Capt Bill sidelined by cancer - and seemed to have retired from Crab fishing and is enjoying the fine lire. now.
Even the Hillstrands went semi retired. I'm convinced Jonathan came back because he was asked too and paid literally a boat load of money.
I wonder - do they even consider retirement? or do they just fade away.?
I know some captains have been victims of their own vices - like Elliot and the drugs.
I just wonder if Sig and Keith will die at the wheel....or if they'll decide to retire and actually enjoy some time with their families.

Rick Shelford

Does Rich have any kind of medical background or training? it seems like when a medical emergency comes up on his ship, he knows what to do when he pulls out that big on med supplies. Or does it come from years of being on a boat.

Lumbar surgery while obese?

i need some sort of surgery for my lumbar region, spacers - something similar to Vertiflex.
However, i am morbidly obese.
My doctors have said i need surgery, however they wouldnt do it unless i lost 'some' weight.
I was on zepbound, but had to stop do to a bout with Colitis, and now that my husband has reached his drug deductable for medicare for his zepbound, i can afford to start it again.
I've startedd to feel some numbness in my butt area and down my right leg.

I've done some reserach on the internet and there is the opinion, that yes, patients should lose weight before surgery.
But there is more and more comments that waiting for the patient to lose weight just contributes to the further deterioraztion of the lumbar region. So surgery should be performed before patient loses total mobility.

I'm going to talk to my doctor, but i wondered if anyone here had been thru surgery in my situation.
