Do people assume business majors know accounting?

I told someone I graduated with a Business Administration degree and they asked if I knew how to do nonprofit tax forms/W-9s. I said no. They seemed surprised and asked what school I went to, which made me feel weird about it. Lol I didn’t major in accounting and only took one accounting class. Am I actually supposed to know this stuff with a business degree or are they just assuming all business majors know accounting/tax forms?

Teachers need a reality check

So I wanted to post this because over the past week I’ve seen a lot of posts from subs feeling down about how poorly they’re treated by teachers and other school staff. Some posts mentioned not being offered or given anything during teacher appreciation week, and I’ve even seen posts from people saying they want to quit because of how undervalued they feel. Now this post isn’t meant to offend anyone who wants to become a teacher or anyone currently studying to be one. My perspective may differ from others since subbing is more of a side hustle for me. But it blows my mind how some teachers treat subs as if their own job is so prestigious and coveted. 🤯🤯

The reality is that many teachers leave the profession within 5 years. The teacher shortage in my area is real because nobody wants to do the job. If you look through career forums about teaching right now, you’ll find countless posts from people warning others not to go into the field because the pay is low, the stress is high, and it’s simply not worth it! I personally know 3 teachers, and teaching wasn’t their first choice! They more or less just fell into it.. Ever heard the saying, “those who can’t do, teach”? That’s kind of what happened. And honestly, I think that’s probably the case for most teachers!

That’s why I find it crazy when I hear stories about teachers acting arrogant or looking down on subs. I guess subs are the only people they feel comfortable acting superior toward, because outside of that environment, teaching is not exactly viewed as a highly prestigious career compared to many other professions that require a 4 year degree. 🤨 I just feel bad when I read posts from subs who feel hurt because a teacher said something rude to them, treated them poorly, or looked down on them. At the end of the day, there’s no reason for anyone in a school environment to treat others with disrespect, but please don’t let a teacher of all people make you feel lowly.

Anyone else have issues with their brakes squeaking?

2024 Jeep Compass has close to 10k miles on it, and the brakes are squealing in reverse and when coming to a stop. I took it to the dealer twice, but they said the brakes look brand new and they don’t see anything wrong. At this point.. I’m not sure what to do. It is so embarrassing!

This school has been giving me the runaround about long-term pay. According to my agency’s policy, long-term pay kicks in after the 5th day of an assignment, but the school has to approve it first. I’ve never had an issue with this until now.

When I first accepted the assignment I asked the agency to confirm the long-term rate. They said they’d reach out to the sub coordinator but never followed up. I checked back in on Friday, and they told me the coordinator doesn’t know yet because they’re unsure what they’re doing with the position? Yeah, whatever that means. I followed up again on Monday, and they said they’d reach out and get back to me that same day… but they never did. I reached out again yesterday and was told the coordinator still doesn’t know because the teacher is on leave which makes no sense. What does that have to do with my pay? If I’m scheduled for more than 5 days, I should be getting long-term pay, period. Now the agency says they’re escalating it to HR.

I only met the sub coordinator on my first day and she made a comment about me looking really young and asked if I was over 21. I don’t know if she thinks that I’m young and don’t know any better, so I’ll just continue working without receiving the correct pay. Anyway, I’m mentioning that because I saw her in the hallway a few minutes ago, and she literally tried to hide behind a door when she saw me. I’m not even freaking kidding. Today is my 5th day and I’m dropping this assignment as soon as the last bell rings.

ETA: I’m not really sure what the hell she’s hiding for when everything about pay goes through the agency anyway, so it’s not like I was going to approach her about it directly! Hopefully they’re able to find another sub, since the one before me quit and I’ve heard the students have run off multiple subs. Another sub actually warned me about this school months ago and said they would never take an assignment at this school again.

I accepted a full week assignment at this school (I also subbed one day last week), and today another teacher handed me a chaperone list, saying the students are going on a university trip that’s 2 hours away on Thursday and I’m apparently a chaperone? What the hell.
