For every person that comments on a rant post here asking why PIMOs don't just leave you sound like this:

Yes, leaving is the solution. I know that because I’m someone who actually did it.

But “just leave” massively oversimplifies what it takes to actually leave.

There are countless things you have to consider, plan, arrange, and emotionally prepare for before you can even get to the point of walking away. The process itself can be exhausting and traumatic.

And if you live under your parents’ roof, depend on them financially, or are still studying, leaving may not even be a realistic option yet. Trying to leave can mean dealing with guilt-tripping, pressure, threats, and condemnation from the cult and your own family.

It really shows their priorities. We can't milk you if you ain't a member anymore.

I've told my story a few times but felt it was important to highlight this part.

First, I asked a church officer in my purok. Then one of the group leaders. Then a minister. And finally even a district minister.

I asked for help because I was depressed. Funnily enough, many of the reasons I was depressed were because of following the pamamahala.

All gave me the same answer that boils down to "just pray, obey, and deal with it". They even laughed when I mentioned I was going to therapy and they said my faith was weak.

So I said to myself; alright then why not we put a little faith in myself and in what I can do. By leaving and moving out.

Suddenly my phone was ringing off the hook. They were sending out groups of church officers to find me. Asking my friends and acquaintances for my whereabouts as if it was a manhunt.

Oh, now you care.
