It’s meant to play on all the typical horror tropes. The movie even references horror tropes as part of its plot.
I do appreciate Jimmie’s taste in horror, though. All except High Tension.

As far as I know, Bruno is turned into a human for the sole purpose of piloting Cindy's pumpkin carriage and goes back to being a dog at the stroke of midnight. I don't believe he ever speaks, but we do see him in full possession of opposable thumbs and walking upright.
I have to assume he remembers this time, right? Do you think his consciousness just blocks out the memories of this time? Maybe, he's just forced to silently long for a return to an existence that's just never going to manifest.
