FILM PREMIERE: Ruth's Mosaic (Voices of the Rock Documentary Series)

I had the pleasure of attending the film premiere of Ruth's Mosaic, a Voices of the Rock documentary, which explores the life of Ms Ruth E Thomas, MBE, JP, a Bermudian educator, historian and legendary cultural figure.

Ruth's life of achievements and contributions to Bermuda's culture is truly inspiring! The film, produced by Milton Raposo for the Department of Culture, is fantastic. It is available on YouTube for free. Miss Thomas also attended the premiere - she is so lovely!

Please enjoy - Ruth's Mosaic.

Have you heard about BJAR? Bermuda Journal of Academic Research

The Bermuda Journal of Academic Research (BJAR)'s Inaugural Issue (Vol. 1, No. 1) was released in March 2026.

Mission:
"The Bermuda Journal of Academic Research (BJAR) is dedicated to fostering a culture of curiosity and academic growth in Bermuda. Our mission is to provide a platform for local researchers to share their work, engage in interdisciplinary dialogue, and contribute to data-driven policy. By amplifying Bermudian voices, we aim to strengthen connections between Bermuda and the global academic community."

Background:
BJAR was founded in October 2024 by Kyaida Lanthier and Ywione Darrell, two Bermudians with a shared vision to fill a critical gap in the island’s academic infrastructure.

While Bermuda has a rich academic community, there was no established platform to publish and promote local research. Kyaida and Ywione recognized the need for a space where Bermudian researchers could showcase their work, collaborate across disciplines, and engage with the global academic community. They were driven by the belief that a local academic journal would not only elevate research in Bermuda but also contribute to informed policy-making and the island’s overall intellectual growth.

With the support of a dedicated team and a multidisciplinary Editorial Board, BJAR was established to foster curiosity, encourage collaboration, and celebrate the unique research emerging from Bermuda.

BJAR welcomes submissions from academics, students, and practitioners across disciplines. They are particularly interested in work that contributes to knowledge about Bermuda, its people, environment, history, economy, and culture.

Goals:

  • Expand the journal’s reach and impact by fostering collaborations with academic institutions and regional partners.
  • Increase participation from local and international researchers, encouraging more submissions and peer review involvement.
  • Continue to provide an inclusive platform for diverse and interdisciplinary academic work.
