Is it a good idea to plan all 14 days in Alghero as home base?
Hello everyone,
I will be in Sardinia for 14 days from 06.09.
Me and my gf were thinking of staying just in Alghero because the town seems pretty romantic plus we could rent a car and visit all the attraction during the day.
At night we can just stay in the city and experience the local cuisini with some moderate night-life.
I was in Corfu in 2024 and I booked some nights in the old City and some in a village… and I wished I booked them all in the city since at the village there was nothing to be done at night.
Does this also apply to Sardinia (north-western coast), or are there other cities you would suggest staying as base other than Alghero (like idk Orosei, Villasimius).
Please any suggestions appreciated!
Hotel or Airbnb near BCN with train without the killer prices?
Me and my gf booked a trip to Barcelona for the first time but we didnt check the hotel prices at all before booking.
What would be a good affordable in the vicinity place where we can just take the train everyday into the city but also worth the visit itself?
We will be staying 03-09.06.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
I’ve been reading Iain McGilchrist, who suggests that before the Industrial Revolution people may have worked fewer hours (sometimes even claiming ~180 days off per year in pre–French Revolution Europe), and that working conditions worsened significantly afterward.
- How accurate is this from a historical perspective?
Specifically:
- How many days/hours did peasants or artisans typically work in pre-industrial Europe?
- Did people really have that much “free time,” or is that misleading (e.g., due to seasonal labor or religious holidays)?
- Did the Industrial Revolution actually make working life worse overall, or is the picture more mixed?
I’d appreciate any sources or historian perspectives.
Many thanks in advance.
