In season one , lottie starts speaking fluent french (in the attic) even though she sucks at it and bashes her head into the wall , her 'episode' ends when Laura Lee hits her with a Bible?

What could be an explanation for this? This is one of the few incidents which is keeping the supernatural theories alive
