First nice bass!

First nice bass!

I caught this on a 1/16 rooster tail standing waist deep between two docks in a lake in SC. I caught my first bass ever two days ago and it was tiny, so this was amazing! Fighting it to my net was so much fun.

I don’t have a measuring/weighing tool - roughly how big inches/weight wise do you think this was? Also is it a largemouth? I don’t have a scale or anything sorry for the dumb questions.

I’m staying here for a few days and anyone has tips on getting more fish like this let me know!

What else do I need for an all purpose tackle box?

I started fishing early this year and have fallen in love with it. I would say 90% of my catches have been on live bait (crickets or night crawlers) but I travel for work and am often fishing new spots with only a few hour window to get out there, so I’d love to not have to rely on live bait and use lures/what I can carry with me to catch fish.

My Dad gave me this tackle box and I’ve been slowly filling it up, I’m wondering what you guys would recommend to catch more fish! I’ve had luck with rooster tails (catching trout out west, and small bass on the east coast where I live) but really haven’t had luck with anything else. I’d love to catch more bass, let me know what I need!

Thank y’all and apologies if this is a dumb post

What does the American electorate do if we start being represented by dead people?

With the current McConnell situation, I’m just curious as to what folks think the proper course of action is now that the political establishment is openly weekend-at-bernie’s-ing folks who are elected to represent us.

I think the governor is doing everything in his power to handle this correctly but like. . . why do we have to put up with this?

First fly fishing trip!

I started fishing a few months ago and had the opportunity to go out with some guides on the south fork of the snake river in Idaho while I was out here for work. It was my first time on a fly rod and bringing these guys in was absolutely exhilarating. I’ve only fished in the south east before this, and being out on a small boat in the water was magical. Bucket list day!

Where do you throw when you find a hole in a freshwater stream?

I was visiting Aspen, CO for work and walking the creek/adjacent path found this little hole. Throwing a rooster tail I got a bite and fought a trout for minute (it jumped and I saw it about 8ft from me, lost it after it jumped) and then I got nothing.

Would fish hang around that big rock? It got real deep there so I kept running the lure through the deep but I got nothing but sticks. Were the fish spooked? Did I do something wrong? I’m not super great with the rooster tail yet but the fact I had a fish for a minute made me think I was on the right path casting up steam and running through the deeper hole but any advice/knowledge is appreciated!

Why are Republicans suddenly against questionable tattoos and sexual assault with Graham Platner, but not Hegseth or Trump?

Pete Hegseth has Christian nationalist tattoos and has killed over a dozen Americans in his holy war in Iran. Steve Bannon and Elon Musk threw Nazi salutes at CPAC in the past few years. Neo-Nazi’s were at Jan 6th and recently marched in Washington on the 4th, which the president has not condemned. “Very fine people on both sides”

Trump was found liable of rape, has bragged about sexual assaulting women on numerous occasions, and is the single largest subject of the Epstein files.

But if you go to conservative subreddits they’re saying Platner is a Nazi who abuses women. Why don’t they acknowledge their own Nazi’s that abuse women? Lmao

Do small catfish bite fingers more than bigger ones?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I just got some gloves for my tacklebox because I’ve been catching these little catfish on crickets at the river near my house, and it seems these small ones bite when you try to handle them/remove the hook way more than the 5/6 lb ones I’ve caught.

They can’t hurt you right? It doesn’t seem like they could take my finger off or anything but I jump every time they clamp down on me and I made cutting this hook pretty hard today. I sent one flying across the water the other day when he bit me and I felt bad haha

What find of fish is this?

Apologies if this breaks the rules I wasn’t sure what “no identification of harvested fish” meant

I thought it was a bluegill but its mouth was so much bigger for being this tiny. Caught it just reeling in with a cricket at a spot that I catch a lot of panfish at

Does the presence of a ton of small fish mean larger ones are nearby?

Basically what the title is asking. I went fishing today and had a period of time where every cast I was pulling bluegill out of the water (using advice from my last post I scouted out a big downed tree and just fished the sides of it with crickets) does this mean there are definitely bass/catfish/larger fish nearby?

What should I switch to rig/bait wise in this to land
something other than the smaller panfish? My buddy took a really small bluegill and used it as live bait the other day when we went out, but these fish today were too big to do that. I did catch a decent sized catfish in the spot a few days ago so I know stuff is there I’m just confused as to where bass/catfish might be in relation to spots where the panfish are super easy to catch

Starting fishing a few weeks ago, this is my personal best and first non-panfish!

Until now I’ve only caught small panfish on a travel rod and spinning reel my girlfriend’s dad gave me. I was throwing out some crickets on a fairly small hook at a spot near my house and got this guy on the lip - I had to pull him in by hand and the whole catch was absolutely exhilarating.

I caught a couple smaller catfish and some bluegills at this spot today (switching from worms to crickets really helped) and though it’s not massive catching this fish felt like a turning point in understanding how awesome fishing is haha
