PSA: save your money, stay away from KastKing pliers

First I bought the KastKing speed demon pliers (first picture), they’re great looking and it’s a well known brand. After ONE time on the kayak, and just two bass, the handle started to fray. I had tiny little orange particles all over my hands and kayak an clothes

I sent KastKing an email with pictures, I did get an apology and “thanks for the feedback” response but I bought them on Amazon so I had to return them that way. I did and got refunded.

Next I bought the KastKing cutthroat pliers (second image). I’ve had them for two weeks and it’s starting to rust, the like cutter barely works now, and it feels very flimsy (like parts jostling around) when using them

Hope this saves you some time, money, and hassle

Anyone have recommendations for good pliers?

Found a couple good ones the other day - let's see how we'll calibrated your eyeball scales are. What's the weight?

I have the weight measured to the closest hundredth of a lb.

Ned Rig - 4" Yum Dinger or Smaller?

I have yet to try the Ned Rig, but I have a rod tied up with the Ned Rig-stylw hook and a pack of 4" Yum Dinger plastic worms. 4" too long? Seems like i see a lot of 2" and 3" baits. Just wondering if I need to purchase something else. Thank you.

Urchin bait on a Jika Rig has been producing everytime I use it.

I haven't caught any monsters yet, but I never fail to catch a few bass on this knockoff urchin.

Blind, Mutation, or something else?

Caught this 2lber on a Cl8 Mighty Mouse and realized it had blue eyes. Both were like this. Is it blind/diseased, or is this a genetic mutation? TIA

Chatterbait colors

I want to use the electric shad color Zako on the chatterbait to the right and the sexy shad zako with the chatterbait on the left. Would these trailers and skirts match? Thanks!

Picking the next rod in my arsenal

I recently received a $200 gift card to Tackle Warehouse (birthday) and I am looking to add another rod to my arsenal. Before I do, I wanted to get some opinions on both makes but also power/action. My rod collection as of today is as follows:

  • Shimano Intenza Glass Casting (7'2" MH/F) with a Shimano SLX XT reel
  • Daiwa Aird X (7' M/F) with a Revros LT Spinning Reel
  • Quantum Bill Dance (6'6" MH/F) Baitcaster Combo
  • (Bonus) Repaired (epoxied tip) Shimano Intenza Glass Casting (7'2" MH/F) (the rod works but I do worry that one cast it wont)

I already have a couple of reels in boxes ready to go (Shimano SLX XT and Abu Garcia Revo Premier LP (picked up on a killer deal)), so I am just looking for my next rod.

Currently, I am thinking to add a Medium power Baitcaster, but my debate centers around if I should consider a ~$200 Medium or consider 2 rods and getting a Medium and then maybe a MH or H as well. The rods I am looking at are:

  • ~$100 Mediums
    • Daiwa Tatula XT 7' M/F
    • Shimano SLX A 7' M/F
    • Lew's KVD Elite 7' M/F
  • $150-$200 Mediums
    • Lew's Custom Lite 7' M/F
    • St Croix Black Bass 7'1" M/F
    • Fenwick HMG 7'1" M/XF
    • Cashion ELEMENT Z2 7' M/XF
  • ~$100 MH/H Additional Rods
    • Daiwa Tatula XT 7'3" MH
    • Daiwa Tatula XT 7'3" H
    • Shimano SLX 7'2" H
    • Dobyns Maverick Series 7'3" H
  • $150-$200 MH/H
    • Lew's Pro LFS-X5 7'6" H (On sale for only $180, originally $260)
    • Shimano Intenza 7'2" MH

Right now I am doing mainly bank fishing around all different types of cover / non-cover. Occasionally I will rent a boat at some of my local lakes but my plan is for next season to get a kayak so I can explore a little more and get better access to the better spots. Because I don't own a boat I don't do any deep cranking, but I am fishing a lot of soft plastics, jigs, and frogs (the Quantum is currently my frog rod).

What are peoples thoughts on these rods/selection? Do people like the Tatula XT in Medium? Should I spend more on a Medium or is getting 2 rods reasonable? How is the XT in MH or H? If I get a Tatula XT in M, what are people's thoughts on the other MH/H rods? Is there are rod that everyone loves that I am just missing?

Any recommends and/or notes are welcome. Interested to hear peoples thoughts.

It was a good morning!

First time catching one on a frog and first time on wacky rig. Both were 2 lbs and really fun catches. Little guy rounded out the morning on the wacky.

Thought it was a huge bass when it hit but… caught this?

Anyone know what this is? I was fishing for bass (swim jig) and this thing absolutely smoked it.

Caught in a marina that feeds into Lake Erie.

I have never seen of these before.

Had teeth and a large spot on its tail.

Thanks !

I just gut hooked this bass and feel pretty bad :(

First time I’ve gut hooked a fish but as soon as I reeled it in I knew instantly this one was going to die because I could only see the tail of senko hanging out of its mouth. Would’ve kept it but this pond is extremely dirty. I feel like I set the hook a little too late but I’m new to fishing so I’m still learning. I wonder if using a bobber would work with a Texas rig? That way I can set the hook as soon as the bobber goes under water

How to fish this area?

Looking for some advice on how to fish this lake without a kayak/boat. A lot of submerged vegetation and scattered open pockets.. The water isn’t the most clear this time of the year

I mainly have 4/5” Senkos/yum fingers etc along with some Topwater frogs, poppers, and Temu urchins on the way.

A few questions: -Where would you make your first casts? -Would you start with topwater or go straight to a plastic? -What kind of retrieves would you recommend for this type of water? Feels like I’m mixing things up and still not getting bit -Would you throw a weightless or weighted Texas rig? Or wacky?

I’m still learning how to break down water like this, so I’d appreciate any tips on how to get the most out of this area or what I should be paying attention to! 🎣 🙏🏾

Fishing before my towns fireworks last night

Everybody was on the big lake so I decided to hit up a small lake that still had a boat ramp. Was not disappointed. 23 inches almost 7 pounds. Water was glass in the windy midwest. She swam off just fine. Watermelon red flake dinger for the win
