Out catching pike this morning and had a bass slam a hard glide/swimbait. I’ve caught them on small swimbaits but never on one that was almost as big as the fish itself.
Pic is the first fish. Both were around 19-23”.
Had a week off between switching jobs so I borrowed my brother’s entry level Abu Garcia Light/fast combo and decided to go fishing for the first time in two decades. Turns out that what I hated in childhood, I enjoy as an adult.
Had enough fun that i decided to get myself a decent entry range setup. Targeting bass and panfish mostly. Walleye and pike eventually. Trout when im traveling for work. Didn’t get anything too nice but I’m loving it.
Setup:
-Daiwa Presso Travel Rod (6’6” ultralight fast, 4 piece). Got for when I’m traveling for work and so I can pack it with me on my motorcycle/camp trips.
-Fenwick Eagle (6’6” medium fast, 2 piece)
- Lews Speed Spin CRX reels (100 and 200 sizes)
Haven’t built furniture before (mostly small dumb trinkets) so I wasn’t sure how the build would go. Made it based off a picture from an old magazine.
Laminated Douglas fir top, maple trim, vise jaws, handle knobs, tool hangers, and walnut handle.
Not sure how the (significantly) oversized face vise will work out. Not experiencing racking with it (using blocks) so I’m hoping it holds up.
