What can I buy for my boyfriend who is passionate about fishing?

Hi, I have a question. What would you recommend?
I know I can return it in the worst-case scenario, but I honestly know nothing about fishing at all and have no idea what to buy him. I read that Shimano is considered a really good brand.
I picked the Shimano Ultegra 14000 XTE fishing reel black, which cost around ( 220$ ), and also the Shimano TX-2A Carp 3.66m 3lb fishing rod black( 140 $).
Did I choose well, or did I make a bad choice?

Is my Spheros SW10000 broken?

So today I bought shimano spheros SW10000, after unpacking and setting it up, I found out that it is making a quiet but strange sound when spinning, it sounds like quiet knocks and clicks, and I don't know if it's okay or not

What should i do about this

I cant seem to be able to remove the gears because of a dent in the gear shaft and i really need to open up my reel as i accidently dropped it in some water blended with sand.
The reel is a shimano Scorpion MD 301 XG and i had a pretty strong pike on before dropping it in the water and after dropping it i had a strong pike to. Maybe the sand ruined my reel when the pike took drag

Chatterbait colors

I want to use the electric shad color Zako on the chatterbait to the right and the sexy shad zako with the chatterbait on the left. Would these trailers and skirts match? Thanks!

Is this normal?

I just got this new certate sw 2021 6000P. When I mount it onto a reel seat, it sits at an angle as shown in the image. Is this normal for a certate?

Picking the next rod in my arsenal

I recently received a $200 gift card to Tackle Warehouse (birthday) and I am looking to add another rod to my arsenal. Before I do, I wanted to get some opinions on both makes but also power/action. My rod collection as of today is as follows:

  • Shimano Intenza Glass Casting (7'2" MH/F) with a Shimano SLX XT reel
  • Daiwa Aird X (7' M/F) with a Revros LT Spinning Reel
  • Quantum Bill Dance (6'6" MH/F) Baitcaster Combo
  • (Bonus) Repaired (epoxied tip) Shimano Intenza Glass Casting (7'2" MH/F) (the rod works but I do worry that one cast it wont)

I already have a couple of reels in boxes ready to go (Shimano SLX XT and Abu Garcia Revo Premier LP (picked up on a killer deal)), so I am just looking for my next rod.

Currently, I am thinking to add a Medium power Baitcaster, but my debate centers around if I should consider a ~$200 Medium or consider 2 rods and getting a Medium and then maybe a MH or H as well. The rods I am looking at are:

  • ~$100 Mediums
    • Daiwa Tatula XT 7' M/F
    • Shimano SLX A 7' M/F
    • Lew's KVD Elite 7' M/F
  • $150-$200 Mediums
    • Lew's Custom Lite 7' M/F
    • St Croix Black Bass 7'1" M/F
    • Fenwick HMG 7'1" M/XF
    • Cashion ELEMENT Z2 7' M/XF
  • ~$100 MH/H Additional Rods
    • Daiwa Tatula XT 7'3" MH
    • Daiwa Tatula XT 7'3" H
    • Shimano SLX 7'2" H
    • Dobyns Maverick Series 7'3" H
  • $150-$200 MH/H
    • Lew's Pro LFS-X5 7'6" H (On sale for only $180, originally $260)
    • Shimano Intenza 7'2" MH

Right now I am doing mainly bank fishing around all different types of cover / non-cover. Occasionally I will rent a boat at some of my local lakes but my plan is for next season to get a kayak so I can explore a little more and get better access to the better spots. Because I don't own a boat I don't do any deep cranking, but I am fishing a lot of soft plastics, jigs, and frogs (the Quantum is currently my frog rod).

What are peoples thoughts on these rods/selection? Do people like the Tatula XT in Medium? Should I spend more on a Medium or is getting 2 rods reasonable? How is the XT in MH or H? If I get a Tatula XT in M, what are people's thoughts on the other MH/H rods? Is there are rod that everyone loves that I am just missing?

Any recommends and/or notes are welcome. Interested to hear peoples thoughts.

Custom Hot Rod design for a carbon fiber popping cork. Hand-painted with acrylics, made with stainless steel and brass! 🔥(Photo gallery inside)

Hey friends, I want to share another build with you. This time it’s a popping cork, hand-painted with acrylics in the legendary Hot Rod style (I’m a huge fan of this aesthetic). Someone in the comments of my previous posts suggested making this type of gear. To be honest, in my region, nobody knows about popping corks and nobody uses them. So I had to research a mountain of information to make sure I didn't make any technical mistakes during the build.
The body itself features two layers of carbon fiber: a 45-degree braided carbon sleeve and a classic 3K carbon. The core is made of heavy-duty EVA material for extra durability.
I installed solid brass inserts at the top and bottom of the float body. This provides maximum protection for the carbon and clear coat from bead impacts, acting as an additional acoustic damper.
The wire frame is made of 1.3mm marine-grade stainless steel. I designed it to be slightly elongated to allow for much crisper, louder clicks. The weight and some of the beads are solid brass, and I also added genuine malachite stone beads—because stone and brass create the absolute best acoustic pair.
I would love to hear your thoughts on this work! 🔥💥

Help Pricing Inherited Fresh Water Gear

I initially cross-posted this to r/ fishing, but the post was removed.

I lost my dad to suicide in 2024, and I am finally at a place where I can start looking through his things. He was deeply passionate about fly fishing. While I never quite caught the bug the way he did, I know how much this sport meant to him.

He left behind a lot of gear that I’m looking to sell, but honestly, I have absolutely no clue where to start when it comes to pricing.

I’m not looking to get top dollar. I just want to sell everything for a fair, reasonable price to people who will actually use and love it the way he did.

If anyone has the time to help me identify and fairly value some of these items, I would be incredibly grateful.

Shimano Teramar and Saguaro Baitcasting Rods

Hello I’m looking at getting a bait caster set up for salt water. For reels I’m looking at 300 and 400 series Shimano and Daiwa Reels. For rods I’m looking at Shimano inshore casting rods.

I went to a tackle shop the other day and saw two rods I saw the Shimano Saguaro Casting Saguaro 70 MH CST B and the Shimano Teramar Ne Casting TERAMAR NE 76 MH CST B which is what the employee recommended. He also told me the Saguaro Rod was a Conventional rod not a baitcaster rod because it didn’t have the trigger.

I went on Shimanos website and looked at their Teramar collection and a lot of the rods labeled as West Coast Casting didn’t have triggers including the Saguaro Casting rod which leads to my question.

Do casting rods have to have triggers or will those Shimano rods work as baitcasters?

I have the Spinning reel version of the saguaro and it works very well for my purposes so if I’m able to use the Saguaro casting rod as a baitcaster I’m gonna buy that rod get a Daiwa Lexa or a Shimano reel and then upgrade the rod to a Teramar down the line.

TLDR Do baitcasters have to have a trigger or will any rod labeled as casting be fine; what makes a conventional different if it’s not just the lack of trigger?

Best UL rod from Temu?

I’m in search for a UL spinning rod from temu, does anyone know any good ones? Price doesen’t matter. Length doesn’t matter that much, but i’d prefer it at 180cm or longer. Casting weight should be no less than 1g, and max 10g.

Thanks!

Looking for rod recommendations: durability a must

I’m looking for rod recommendations for my son. He currently has an Abu Garcia bait caster and previously had an Ugly Stix and Flueger spin caster, both of which snapped. He was super mad about the spin caster rods breaking so easily so my suggestion to him was to salvage the reel from the Flueger and just get a better rod.

That said, which rod companies would you recommend for a 13 yo? The things he’s looking for are durability, prefers a rod that’s 6’6 but 6’9 or 7’ is acceptable, and below $200. We looked at the Dobyns Fury series but wanted other suggestions before we went back to the store. Thanks

Daiwa Rods via Amazon

Within the past 3 days I’ve received from Amazon 5 Daiwa rods.

The 2-7’3” one pieces were well packed,
The 3-7’ two piece were well packed,

But the 1-6’6” Daiwa Presso Ultralight rod arrived only in a thin plastic bag. And although I ordered 2 of these rods they were shipped separately. Yesterday unsurprisingly Amazon advised the 2nd Presso was damaged in shipping and they would cancel/refund one rod.

I reordered but not feeling optimistic I’ll receive the rod undamaged. Has anyone had issues like this from Amazon before?

Thank you!

Please Help Choosing Rod

I snapped my rod today and am looking at this Daiwa rod and am struggling choosing between the 7’ medium light fast vs. 7’6” medium fast.

I have a daiwa crossfire lt 2500 reel that I use 15lb braided on.

I mainly kayak fish in NE Florida inshore. Around oyster beds, grass lines, docks, creek mouths. Mainly targeting reds, snook, trout, & flounder w/ 1/8oz jigheads & paddletails. Topwater chug bug in the morning. Occasional live shrimp & mud minnows.

Any and all recommendations & advice is greatly appreciated!

Spinning rod Sub $200

Hi guys, I am currently returning my Bass Pro Micro Lite 6’6 medium light rod as after 3 outings 2 eyes have come out and the cork on the reel fastener has completely come unglued and is just floating up and down the handle, the rod handled really well and I definitely caught bass!

Fish I’m going after - Bass, Pickerel, Walleye, MAYBE lake trout, regular trout also.

For bass fishing I’m using a Texas rig or drop shot 99% of time, but I want something which can throw some light lures for when I go on my local trout river (Battenkill)

Would like 7’0 preferably to be able to cast a little further, 2 piece is basically mandatory.

My rod cost $69 I believe, it’s being paired with a Shimano Sedona FJ, 15# braids and Fluoro leaders between 6-10# depending what I’m doing.

Ideally this could be purchased at bass pro shop, I’ve heard a lot about Daiwa XT but it appears only available in medium from BPS.

I appreciate any recommendations, I’d like to keep this under $150 but I will stretch to $200 if there’s a convincing argument to be made!
