Issues with Tackle Warehouse

Anyone else ever had issues with Tackle Warehouse. Here’s my situation:

Ordered football jigs in a color which said online they were in stock (last Thursday).

Got an email the following day saying their inventory system didn’t correctly indicate the color was out of stock but could order a different color. I went replied saying I’d swap out for this color (last Friday).

I received the order on Tuesday without these two jigs. I’ve called customer service multiple times and they assured me it would be sent out but still haven’t gotten the tracking information. I was expecting to have this to fish by the holiday weekend.

Anyone else have issues with Tackle Warehouse showing items in stock only to be out of stock then changing the order but taking a long time?

If I would’ve known this, I would’ve just included on my trailer order after. They’re extremely slow and don’t really seem to care when calling customer service. Emails have gone unanswered too.

Are fishing camouflage actually helpful or pure aesthestic-only? (the pattern is fishouflage)

Bubba Tidal Pro Select

I’m not sure why these bubba rods never got popular, but they are some of the best rods I’ve ever owned. I bought one a couple years ago for $250, and now they are on Amazon for $129. They are inshore rods and extremely sensitive! They are slightly heavier at 8oz, but they perform better than my shimano zodias. I have 5 now. Just figured I’d share a recommendation at an unbeatable price 🤝

Any idea what it’s worth?

Similar fishing lures?

I really like these minnows but I think they stopped making them? Are there any similar lures that i wouldn't have to pay a ton for second hand ones? (The minnow not spinner)

How would Penn Pursuit V combo hold up for inshore stripers?(specs below)

Hello guys, I was wondering how the Penn Pursuit V 8ft MH 5000 would hold up for inshore fishing off the east side of Winthrop, MA? Should I size down to 7ft M 4000? I wanted to select the Pursuit V because it has a sale on the Penn website right now, and seemed like a good deal that met my requirements, but I just wanted a second opinion before I bought it. Also, 30LB braid with 25LB fluoro would work for this?

Rod handle repair

What are some essentially no cost ways to rig up a handle onto an old rod with cracking dried out cork handles? I got the rod for 5 bucks so im absolutely not spending a dime on getting it usable, my thinking is in the realm of like duct tape handles or some shit.

Rod Butt Repair - Fool's Errand?

I was fishing this weekend off the back of a boat, turned around awkwardly and slipped. While going down I flailed to grab the rail but my hand caught hold of a rod in the holder instead and snapped the butt of a new 9' Penn Battle rod right off, all while still landing flat on my back. Not my proudest moment.

I figure I can repair this though, right? Since the butt doesn't flex anyway, loading up with epoxy shouldn't negatively impact the overall performance, I think.

I bought both a 1/2 oak dowel and a 1/2 aluminum tube from Lowes, as well as a Amazon kit for repairing rod tips and some extra epoxy. Figured I can use either the tube or dowel as a reinforcement spine and epoxy together, maybe with some thread wrap over the top.

Does this seem a reasonable approach or am I wasting my time?

Anyone have an opinion on using the oak ($4) vs the aluminum ($8)?

Warranties

Let's talk about warranties. A manufacturer warranty covers a defect in the product's manufacturing, whether it be a rod, reel, lure, or anything. It's not designed for misuse or abuse. If a product (especially a rod) is defective, you will usually find out almost immediately, generally on your first fish. Your warranty doesn't cover overloads, crush breaks, high sticking, tailgates, garage doors, using it as a sword, or anything in between. Yes, some companies will exchange anything, but that doesn't make their product good. With rods in particular, every different break will have a unique look. A defect will generally be a clean break, unless there is delamination which has a totally different look. A crush break will cause splintering. A high stick will almost have a V shape to it. I've seen manufacturers conduct many tests to determine a rod's load capacity, failure point, and failure mode. Crunchy reel? It's usually due to water intrusion. On a sealed reel, this could be a warranty issue, but on your $30 reel, you probably got it wet, especially in saltwater. Yes, more expensive gear (especially rods) can be more fragile. A carbon rod can take much less abuse than your ugly stick, but they're not for everyone. If you're extremely rough on your gear, sometimes cheaper, easily replaceable gear is for you. But it's not always on the manufacturer to replace something that broke due to abuse.

Thoughts on TFO rod breaking in less than 1 year?

I cannot remember smashing it in a door or anything, but went to reline the rod and under a little tension got the break.

Edit: I submitted a warranty with everything needed and was told they would not cover it and that I would have to buy a new second half of the rod. Comes in at about half of what the rod cost me 10 months ago.

Reels from made-in-china(dot) com website. Worth-it or junk?

Hey guys. I was toying with the idea of getting some new gear for my uncle's boat. He just got a new 28ft seafox center console 2 years ago. He doesn't know much about fishing but my dad and I have fished in the bay and near shore for many years from boats.

Gear can be expensive when outfitting a whole boat, especially with larger sized or trolling setups.

I came across reels like these on the made-in-china(dot)com website.

Many appear to be replicas of well known equipment. Like the Penn 30 class.

Then there is this Topline 50 class.

These reels should cost several hundred dollars i think, but you can buy them here for like $40-$75 and either free shipping or $20 shipping max. I can get the crank mechanism on the right or left as well. They have nice looking spinning reels too. (I am looking at the one in the first picture. The knockoff Penn reel is just included as an example) The aluminum one is $75.

Has anyone tried one of these before?

I assume these factories in China are producing the same reels for the OEM companies and so they are likely exact replicas, just sold direct to consumers.

I was thinking worst case scenario, maybe so quality control issues. So best to pull the reel apart when you get it, make sure no debris or metal shavings in the crank and gears and the add fresh oil, check the seals, and reassemble.

Let me know what you guys think or if you have had any experience with these.

I would obviously rather spend $300 total on 4 reels than $300 a piece on them.

The rods themselves i think I will stick with buying name brand. I trust China to precision machine metal (because I can see it and inspect it)

I likely dont trust them to lay up carbon and fiberglass properly. Especially when they can hit it with a top coat and hide the weave pattern.

Handmade tackle storage

I little while ago I made this box to keep some of my gear in what do we think? It's made from some type of hardwood, I'm pretty sure it's maple, and I burned it with a tiger torch, which really makes the grain stand out. And clear coated it. Also, there is a Bristol board on the inside of the lid, and on the bottom, the green thing is a block of floral foam. Just to hang smaller lures.
