drop shot hook-with-swivel assemblies - experiences over tying a regular hook onto line directly

Just curious if people think these swivel-plus-hook assemblies are better for drop shotting than just a plain hook tied onto your line.

Image shown is one example of a multitude of options on amazon.

Thank you.

Sources of golden shiners or banded kilifish in Ontario?

Wondering if anyone knows of a fish farm that sells to the general public.

How this relates to fishing - these two species are legal baitfish in Ontario and easy to raise in an aquarium.

I do have fathead minnows but mine have grown to about 6cm size then die of old age. Looking for something larger.

Thank you.

question on coordination-of-benefits when there is a reasonable-and-customary limit

Hello,

I have a strange situation with my employee benefits coverage.

Original charge $120, submitted to spouse's insurer, they covered $10 (the remaining amount for the annual limit for that medical specialty).

I submitted to my insurer; they applied a $100 reasonable-and-customary limit, THEN deducted other-insurer paid amount, and gave me $90.

I don't see why my insurer should deduct the other insurer's payout when the "leftover amount' exceeds the reasonable-and-customary limit. In my view, I am still out-of-pocket $110, and if my insurer limits it to $100 that's fine, but why does the other payout reduce something on my insurer's limit?

In my view, the payout should be

  • MIN(outofpocket, eligibleamount)

where

  • outofpocket = leftoveramount = totalfee - otherinsurerpaid
  • eligibleamount = MIN( totalfee, customarylimit )

... so in my view I should have been paid $100. My total reimbursement would not exceed my totalfee as expected.

My leftoveramount has already been reduced by otherinsurer payout. Is there some industry standard or custom that says my insurer can reduce using the otherinsurerpaid a SECOND time?

Thank you.

45° carbon fiber wraps - what is the point for non-1-piece rods?

Shimano has their spiral x technology. Daiwa calls its technology x45. I understand both to be carbon fibers laid diagonally to resist twist in the rod.

I don't understand how it can prevent any twisting (as seen by movement of the guides) in multi-piece rods, where every joint can be a rotation point. A 1-pc rod sure, but anything else I don't see the benefit.

Is my hunch accurate? Or does a diagonal wrap provide something else I'm not seeing?

Thank you.
