Entry Level opennings?

I have been told multiple times that insurance companies are hiring all the time for adjusting positions. I have been looking on their career sites for the last 2 weeks and have found nothing that would indicate otherwise. Am I missing something?

[AUTO] [ON] TD Ontario renewal risk with 3 Ontario convictions and 1 New York conviction

I have a full Ontario G license and my TD auto policy runs until May 2027. TD renewed me in May 2026.

My Ontario driver abstract currently shows:

  • Speeding: 115 km/h in a 100 zone
    • Offence date: February 14, 2025
    • Conviction date: March 4, 2025
    • 0 demerit points
  • Disobey legal sign
    • Offence date: December 20, 2024
    • Conviction date: June 2, 2025
    • 2 demerit points
  • Speeding: 109 km/h in an 80 zone
    • Offence date: May 14, 2025
    • Conviction date: June 18, 2025
    • 3 demerit points

My abstract currently shows 5 demerit points.

I also received a ticket in New York in March 2026. The original speeding charge was reduced to VTL 1110(a), failure to obey a traffic-control device. I accepted the reduced charge and paid it in July 2026, after TD had already renewed my policy. I understand that paying it means I was found guilty/convicted of the reduced offence.

The New York document says 3 points, but I do not yet know how Ontario will record it or whether Ontario will assign the same number of points.

I understand the possible consequences:

  • The New York conviction may appear on my Ontario driving record.
  • TD may see four convictions within three years.
  • My premium could increase significantly.
  • TD could refuse to renew me in May 2027.
  • I may need to use a non-standard or high-risk insurer.
  • I may have to disclose a non-renewal if a future application specifically asks about it.
  • The convictions will remain relevant until they fall outside the insurer’s lookback period.

My questions are:

  1. Is TD likely to refuse renewal in May 2027 with this record?
  2. When does TD usually pull a driver abstract before renewal?
  3. Has anyone with a similar record actually been renewed or non-renewed by TD?
  4. Does a TD non-renewal affect future applications separately from the convictions themselves?
  5. Would selling my vehicle and voluntarily cancelling before renewal be recorded differently from a TD non-renewal?
  6. Can I request an underwriting review from TD before the renewal date?
  7. Which Ontario insurers or brokers usually accept drivers with four minor convictions?
  8. What would you suggest be the best way forward? I am willing to quit driving, sell my car and take rentals when needed for a year or two, user Uber and public transport where needed.

I know I made mistakes and I take responsibility for them. I am not trying to hide the convictions or avoid the consequences. I am trying to understand what is likely to happen, prepare early and avoid a gap in coverage.

I would especially appreciate responses from Ontario insurance brokers, TD customers with similar records or anyone familiar with TD underwriting.

Deeply appreciate your time and responses, thanks!

CAR insurance

Has anyone experienced being referred to an underwriting department at TD for car insurance? I moved from another province and have kept my insurance in that province since 2025 but I always call TD and today they referred me to underwriting

Intact is paying more to repair my car than I can fathom it being worth? What can I do?

My car: 2018 Chevrolet Spark LT 68k miles

So my car was in a not at fault accident and had enough front end damage to where I immediately assumed it was definitely a write off, but intact is telling me it is repairable at an estimated cost of $6375.

The airbags didn't go off (to the surprise of the tow truck) but the hood was folded nearly in half, the bumper is a write off, the abs lights came on after the crash, the passenger door makes a horrendous sound when it was opened after and my wheels aren't even aligned anymore, nevermind any damage I couldn't see.

Now this car cost me 18k after taxes fresh off the lot 8 years ago, I'm struggling to understand how they find that it's worth 7k if not more in hidden costs to repair instead of paying this cost to me to put towards a new vehicle.

Not to mention now its trade in value is next to nothing after this crash and I would assume absolutely less than the 7k in repairs, is there anything I can do or am I just out of luck?

Does Square one actually notify your bank if they are listed on your home insurance? Alberta Canada

I am closing in a new home and just want to have the insurance in place to complete the close.

I want to cancel after since my condo fees cover almost everything I will ever need in the event of anything with their own insurance.

Question about cancelling TD auto insurance after moving provinces

I currently have TD auto insurance in Ontario, with a monthly payment of $289.11. I started the policy on June 19, 2026, and I'm trying to understand how my payments work if I cancel the policy early.

Here is my payment timeline:
June 19, 2026: Policy started.

July 1, 2026: TD charged me $572 upfront when I took out the policy.

July 19, 2026: TD charged me another $289.11, as per my payment agreement.

Going forward: My scheduled monthly payment is $289.11. for August 19th,

Due to certain circumstances, I now have to move to Saskatchewan, where auto insurance is provided through the provincial system. Since TD does not provide auto insurance there, I had to contact TD to cancel my Ontario policy before the end of the policy term.
TD told me that I would be charged an additional $116 cancellation fee and that the $572 I paid upfront would be retained. I was also told that the $572 would not be applied toward my final month of coverage (September).
I spoke with an online TD agent/customer service representative, and this was the explanation I received:

**“**On a monthly payment plan, you can choose 11 equal monthly payments or you can choose double plus 10 payments; either way the number of payments is 11. The double down payment option: you just pay one extra payment to help lower the cost of the remaining 10 payments.”

This is my first time cancelling auto insurance before the end of the policy term, so I wanted to double-check whether this is correct.
My main question is: Is the $572 payment essentially an extra payment made upfront as part of the “double payment” arrangement, meaning it is not something that gets credited toward the final month when the policy is cancelled ?
Also, I expect to return to Ontario in a few months. Would it make more sense to keep my current TD policy active while I'm away and also get Saskatchewan insurance, or should I cancel the Ontario policy now and simply get a new policy when I return?
I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who has had a similar experience with TD.
Thanks!

Changes to Ontario Statutory Accident Benefits - July 1, 2026

As of July 1, 2026, Ontario changed its auto insurance rules to make most Statutory Accident Benefits optional rather than automatically included. Only basic medical, rehabilitation, and attendant care (plus examination costs) remain mandatory on every policy. Other vital coverages—like income replacement if you cannot work—can now be added or left out to change your price

Has anyone had their policy renew after July 1, 2026, and if so, what was your experience? Were you advised of how the price of your policy would change if you dropped those now-optional coverages? If you chose to keep those coverages, did it increase the policy premium? I've seen a sheet showing which coverages you can keep (or not keep), but there are no prices associated with the different categories.

Not an insurance person, so my apologies if any of my terminology is wrong.

[Medical] [BC] Can you receive compensation for an insurer’s mistake?

It’s been over a year of me regularly calling and getting NOWHERE with Manulife trying to get my second child added to my insurance. Every agent I’ve spoke to has said there’s some sort of error and they don’t know why he isn’t being added, they suspect the very first time they tried something went wrong during enrollment period and it’s just been a rolling problem since. I’ve request callbacks from managers and still NOTHING.

At this point I’ve spent so much of my own time trying to get him added due to their own internal issues I genuinely want some kind of reimbursement for my time dealing with them. Is this a thing? I’m so not a Karen but I’m exhausted being basically lied to every phone call saying it will be escalated and dealt with when no one does anything.

Toronto, working on RIBO L1, want to go straight into commercial as a producer — a few questions

Hey all, long-time lurker, first post here.

I’m based in Toronto and currently working through my RIBO Level 1. My goal is to become a commercial insurance producer. I don’t have direct insurance experience, but I’ve got a solid sales background in property management and telecom, mostly relationship-driven, longer-cycle sales rather than transactional stuff. Im 25 years old if it matters.

Couple questions for anyone who’s been through this:

**1.**	With no insurance experience but a decent sales track record, is it realistic to start directly in a junior commercial producer role, or should I expect to have to cut my teeth in personal lines first before anyone lets me touch commercial?
**2.**	I want to specialize in a niche early rather than go generalist, but I want to avoid anything oversaturated (seems like contracting/trucking are pretty picked over already). The niches I’m personally most drawn to — mostly out of genuine interest/passion — are advertising/marketing agencies, rehab (drug addiction, eating disorders, etc.), and cybersecurity. From what I’ve looked into, each has its own problem: advertising premiums seem too small to build real income on, rehab seems hard to get underwriters to even write, and cyber is oversaturated with specialty MGAs and big brokerages already all over it. Realistically, could any of these get me to $180k+ in commission within 8-10 years, or should I be looking elsewhere entirely?

Appreciate any honest input, especially from people actually working commercial lines day to day. Thanks in advance.

Sun Life claim review (Canada)– honest submission mistake. What could happen?

I’m looking for advice from anyone who has dealt with a Sun Life group benefits claim investigation.
Sun Life selected approximately $850 of my mental-health claims for review. Around $400 were submitted correctly for Canadian providers, while about $450 were for counselling services I actually received and paid for from an out-of-Canada provider.
The issue is that I mistakenly submitted the out-of-Canada claims through the Sun Life mobile app, selecting a Canadian provider from the provider list. At the time, I didn’t know that out-of-Canada services had to be submitted through the separate Client Care Request process on Sun Life’s website. Since the out-of-Canada provider wasn’t available in the app, I selected a provider from the available list.
Sun Life contacted the Canadian provider shown on the claims, and that provider confirmed they did not provide those services.
Sun Life then asked me for supporting documents. I submitted invoices for both the Canadian claims and the out-of-Canada claims, showing the services and payments. At the same time, I proactively explained to Sun Life that the out-of-Canada claims had been submitted under the wrong provider because I misunderstood the submission process. I also explained that I have since been using the correct Client Care Request process for out-of-Canada claims.
After receiving my explanation and invoices, Sun Life replied that “further review of claims under your plan will occur” and that it could take several weeks before I hear from the investigator.
I’m now quite anxious about what this means.
What is the realistic outcome in a situation like this?
Could Sun Life simply reverse/deny the incorrectly submitted claims and ask for repayment? Does providing genuine invoices showing that the services were actually received and paid for make a difference? Could this potentially affect my entire group benefits coverage?
Has anyone experienced a similar Sun Life investigation where the services were actually received but the wrong provider/process was used?
I’m not looking for legal advice — just trying to understand what typically happens in real-life situations.

Vinyl Record Collection

Looking for homeowner’s insurance that will cover my vinyl collection (median 40k range per Discogs). Current insurer had a rider that covered only up to 20k so now covered under general contents only.

I’ve been shopping around and can find no insurers that will provide a rider without a formal appraisal. A Discogs collection excel export will not suffice. I don’t know of any appraiser in Canada let alone in NS where I live that will do this. Some insurers I have spoken with were also unable to confirm if I would even be covered under general contents, saying it would be verified only in the event of a claim!

I have spoken with the following companies who have been a no go: TD, Belair, Aviva and CAA, among others. I have searched Reddit and Vinyl groups on Facebook to make a list of who to call but after 7+ quotes, I am giving up hope.

So if you have obtained a policy with a rider for your collection in the last few years or have obtained an appraisal in NS, please let me know who you used. Better yet, if you can give me the name of an agent or broker you used.

Adding: I have never been able to locate an appraiser in my area who will appraise vinyl records. Unless you can direct me to one, even within Canada, recommending an appraisal is not useful.

Just got my RIBO Level 1 — which brokerage should I join in the GTA/Brampton area?

Hey all, I just passed my RIBO Level 1 exam and I’m looking to join a brokerage on a commission basis. Background: I have ~8 years in logistics/warehouse operations (supervised a 30-person team), so I’m hoping to lean into commercial/trucking and cargo insurance as a niche eventually, alongside personal lines to start.

I’m based in Brampton and I’m weighing a few options — mainly Billyard Insurance Group (a few different branches: Brampton, Mississauga, Bolton), plus a couple of smaller shops like My Hunter Inc. and Sound Insurance Services.

A few things I care about:

**•**	Real training/mentorship for someone new (not just “here’s a desk, good luck”)
**•**	Decent carrier/market access so I can actually be competitive on quotes
**•**	Fair commission structure and clear terms on book of business ownership if I ever leave
**•**	Support for building a commercial/trucking book, not just personal auto/home

If you’re a broker (or ex-broker) in the GTA — which brokerage did you start at, and would you recommend it? Any specific branches or managing partners I should avoid or seek out? Also open to brokerages I haven’t mentioned.

Thanks in advance!

AUTO - ON - Buying new, conviction falling off 1 month, wait?

I want to buy a new car , 2026 Acura integra apec elite. I have one minor conviction for failure to obey sign falling off my record end on September 20, 2026.

Currently drive 2017 gmc terrain slt. Belair insurance, currently 1597/yr.

I was getting insurance quotes for the new car and they all seem to be very high . I understand newer is more expensive, but assuming that minor conviction is impacting my rate too.

Should I wait until after Sept 20 then call my insurance/other auto insurance to get quotes on the new car (and delay purchase)? I assume they may be like 10-15% lower after conviction falls off and run my abstract for a quote, is that correct?

Insurance quoting around 3275 right now on the new Integra, which is too high.

Will the quote/rate decrease significantly after sept 20th? What amount could I expect compared to now?

Delay purchase, or buy and delay transfer of insurance to after 20th September?

Any idea, any agents out there who can help/advise??

What are my options, and realistic amounts to expect??

US driving history and quote refusal

I have 0 Canadian driving history, but I do have some US driving history, and it was not spotless. I currently hold a full G through an exchange from out of province license (non US). I'm not sure if US driving history would do me more harm than good or not, as my questions are:

a) Am I legally required to disclose my US driving history when asked? Would it count as insurance fraud/misrepresentation if I don't disclose it?

b) my insurance LOE uses very misleading phrases and wordings even though the insurer claims that is the normal practice and shouldn't be an issue at all, but if an Canadian insurance agent refuses to quote/insure me due to the misinterpretation/poor English, does that count as "ever being refused insurance"? What can I do about it? Find a different agent and/or a company?

Ontario insurer moved claim to "Investigative Services" after initially approving it. Licence address changed days before accident

My brother was in an accident and found 0% at fault. Appraisal was done and the claim seemed approved. Days later, the insurer moved the file to Investigative Services, revoked the rental and paused the claim.

The trigger seems to be that his licence address was changed to a Brampton address a couple days before the accident. He didn't get around to reporting the address change to the insurance company before the accident happened.

He does have a sublet in St Thomas and can provide the lease agreement for it, but honestly he alternates between St Thomas and staying at my place in Brampton because of work proximity. For the past 8 months it's been more Brampton than St Thomas tbh, which is why he was updating the licence in the first place; the accident timing was just a coincidence.

The insurer is now demanding: notarized Proof of Loss, black box/airbag module download, the sublet agreement, 6 months of debit and credit card statements, and 6 months of detailed cell phone records with location data (all marked Required). Which we both know will only validate their doubts.

Questions:

  1. Are 6 months of phone location records a "reasonable" request, or overreach?
  2. How do insurers treat split residency like this? I
  3. Realistic outcomes; denial, re-rating with back premium, something else?
  4. Should he get a lawyer/paralegal before complying, especially before any examination under oath?

Appraisal for total loss: rare car

I am located in Ontario. Drove a 2016 Porsche Cayman GTS (second highest trim), exceptionally factory optioned. Bought new in 2016; had been in an accident previously and repaired officially.

Was involved in another accident, I am 0% at fault. Likely it will be pushed to be totalled, although I am aiming for repair as I love the car and there’s nothing out there like it.

I think they will push for total loss and lowball me. These cars go for between about $60K (low trim) and $80K (my trim, or one rung lower). I have many more factory options (about $15-20K more) than every car being sold out there (there’s about 10 for sale nationally within a 2014-2016 time span). Only two negatives on my car: high mileage (for a sports car), and the prior accident (I’m not sure it matters or not).

Is hiring an appraiser worth it? And are there recommendations? I am talking a significant swing in what I think it’s worth (more than $80K) and what I think they will try to offer ($60K).

Impossible to get Auto insurance

I need to specify this is for for cars over $150k. I found a sweet 2024 911 C2S for sale at 188,900. I was looking to trade in my GTS 4.0 and buy that, all numbers worked so then i decided to get an insurance quote before signing off and i was basically just stonewalled from buying this car. It is literally impossible to get insurance on anything over 150k. I lucked out on my GTS 4.0 last time as with taxes it was just below 150 else apparently i wouldn't have been able to buy that either.

A few points

- i am in Ontario

- clean driving record with no tickets

- been licensed for 12 years now on a G license

- continuously insured for 12 years

- I am 31 years old

- Have owned fast cars before (S5, M340, 2 Supras and mow GTS 4.0)

EDIT: The 911 will not be a daily its a second car that will be used for 6 months of the year for about 3000 kms a year.

My current insurer (Scotia) said they can't do anything for cars over 150k, same with TD, RBC, DESJARDINS and CAA. After they all said no i called Hagerty and they were utterly useless they need me to be insured for 15 years and have experience of owning a high performance car like something similar for 3 years which i cant get insurance for anyways.

I can't be the only 31 year old looking to purchase a 911, what am I missing here? Any advice or input would be appreciated 🙏

EDIT: Thank you everyone, spoke to Chubb, Desjradins (through agent) and AON (through porsche Canada) and ended up getting a pretty competitive quote with AON (about 330/mo) so decided on going with them. FYI when calling AON through the Porsche Canada line their upper limit is 200k instead of 150k so i wasnt slammed with high value premium which I was facing with the other 2. Deductible ended up being $5000.

Thank you for all the help!!

Can I keep my Ontario insurance policy while working in Quebec for 10 months?

Basically, I might join my girlfriend in northern quebec to work as a substitute teacher.

I want to bring my car, however I don't really want to do the process of switching over to Quebec regi and insurance, etc.

This whole arrangement would be pretty informal and I would not even be signing any kind of work contract. I have actually already worked for 6 weeks earlier this year before summer break.

How likely would I be to have a claim denied if I were to have an accident up there if I haven't disclosed my situation?

Are there any exceptions for situations like this?
