Bought worldfinancialgroup life insurance 8 yrs ago. Regretting it.

Long story short i want out. The reps i know are all in their 20s and dont know a thing other than what theyre fed and even worse theyre all inconsistent and absolutely impossible to get a hold of through the company itself (ivari). Ive been ghosted by 4 of them including the one that signed me up in the first place, and the last 2 i met through instagram... Im only paying 40 a month yes, but part of me just wants to take the 4k (after surrender charge) and go spend that on my credit card balance and get insurance somewhere else. I dont know what im doing in this realm - which is the exact situation i was in when i signed up during my 3rd yr of university. Would love some perspective

Insurance a bit confusing

Hey everyone,

For those who experience with life insurance any suggestions or advice here will be greatly appreciated.

For context:

My father is ill in a sense he had a few strokes and is diabetic. Bed ridden to but stable. He is 64 and he got insurance back on the day but it’s shitty it took some time to do POA for it my family come to find it out the coverage is poor. Thai is through Canada life and I have been waiting for weeks for a new advisor as the original one is long gone unfortunately.

His coverage is 50k and he wants to increase to help cover my expenses and future. I have been looking into it as confusing at is seems like I’m getting much for his current situation.

My only think is do short term life insurance, get multiple no medical life insurance or some sort of critical illness.

Any advice would be great, my pops want higher payout but not sure how much he would even get for his age

Need help to navigate this situation

Mom holds the assets like the house as soon as he got sick to be safe.

Car insurance for Ontario resident going to school in Alberta

Hi everyone, I'll be moving from Ontario to Alberta in the fall to go to university as a full time student. I'll be bringing my car with me from Ontario. Because I'm a student, I don't have to change my province of residence to Alberta. However, I'm having a hard time finding information about what to do with my car insurance.

My understanding is that because I'll still be an Ontario resident, the car will need to be insured with an Ontario car insurer. But a lot what I've seen online seems to say that many insurers say the car can only be out of Ontario for a max. of 6 months at a time in order to keep your insurance, even for students. This is not super realistic considering how far the drive back and forth from Alberta to Ontario is. So while my permanent address is in Ontario, the car would be out of Ontario full time.

For a few reasons, which I won't get into, I would really like to avoid switching my province of residence to Alberta. I know this might be the most obvious solution but I'm not really looking for suggestions about that, thank you.

I'm wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation? It seems crazy to me that other Ontario students going to university out of province wouldn't have had to deal with this and wouldn't have found a solution. I know some people from other provinces going to school out of their home province who have not had this problem. Also it seems crazy that this 6 month rule would be a blanket policy when, for example, someone going to school in Quebec would have a much easier time following the rule than someone going to school much further away, like me.

Any help would be appreciated!

Ontario drivers — what are you actually paying for car insurance, and does it feel reasonable?

I've been digging into Ontario auto insurance pricing as a side project and the thing that keeps surprising me is how much variation there is between drivers who look similar on paper. Same age, same city, same kind of car — premiums can differ by 30-50% depending on carrier, broker access, and rating quirks that nobody explains to you.

Wanted to ask the community directly:

  1. What are you paying annually for auto insurance?
  2. Roughly your age range, gender, your FSA (first 3 chars of postal code), and your vehicle?
  3. Does the price feel reasonable, or do you suspect you're overpaying?
  4. Have you actually shopped your insurance in the last 2 years, or are you on auto-renewal?

I'll share what I find in a follow-up post if there's enough interesting data. Mainly trying to figure out whether the variation I'm seeing in published numbers matches what real Ontarians are experiencing.

(For context — I'm a 25-year-old in K-W paying $6,029 on a Tesla. Which feels high. My friend in Kitchener pays $1,769 on a 2014 Prius. Which feels reasonable. Curious where everyone else lands.)

Car insurance fault disputes

Anyone here have experience with car insurance fault disputes?

I was involved in a car accident, and the insurance company originally found me 0% at fault, 1.5 months mater they reversed the decision and made me 100% at fault.

They are nitpicking a certain frame in the dashcam footage that is several seconds before the accident occurs.

I was travelling in a roundabout with 2 lanes:

my lane (right lane) allowed me to go either straight or left

the other parties lane (left lane) allowed them to only go left.

The other party went straight, instead of taking the allowed exit, and i took the left which i was allowed to take.

They are blaming me, bc i crossed a dotted line. the roundabout had guide lines for those who are going straight, and in order to take a left, which i was allowed to, i had to go over that dotted line.

I have all the dashcam footage, and birds eye view pics of the roundabout.

any help would be greatly appreciated

Car totaled last year, hit my head on steering wheel (airbags failed). Didn't go to the ER then, but now I have severe eye pressure issues. Need advice..

I really need some legal and insurance advice regarding a bad car accident I was in last year on June 12.The crash completely totaled my car. The airbags never went off, so my head slammed right into the steering wheel.

Because I didn’t have any bleeding, cuts, or broken bones at the scene, I thought I was totally fine and skipped a medical checkup.

Fast forward to recently: I went to Specsavers for a routine eye exam, and they found serious eye pressure issues/glaucoma. I am now seeing a specialist for it. To make things more stressful, I just got hired at a manufacturing job, and I'm really worried about how this might impact my employment and finances if I need treatments or time off.

Since the crash happened almost a year ago and I didn't see a doctor right away, I have a few questions:

How hard is it going to be to prove to insurance that hitting my head on the steering wheel caused or accelerated these eye pressure issues?

Can I take legal action against the car manufacturer because the airbags failed to deploy in a crash severe enough to total the vehicle?

Since I am approaching the 1-year mark of the accident, what should my immediate next steps be to protect myself legally before any deadlines pass?

Is there anything I need to do to protect my new manufacturing job if my eye treatments temporarily interfere with my work?

Any insights from people who have dealt with delayed injuries, airbag failures, or Ontario insurance would be amazing. Thanks.

[Home][SK]Home insurance denied for flooding due to rapid snowmelt

Hey everyone, first time poster here hoping to get some advice. I just got the devastating news that my home insurance claim for flooding in my basement due to rapid melt was denied. I had my restoration guys and the insurance adjuster’s guys come out and both agreed that the flooding was due to rapid snow melt earlier in April. The problem is that the adjuster saw a tiny amount of mold in the floorboards and claimed that there is wood rot and therefore there this was not covered. I had a look at the pictures that they sent and the wood was just extremely wet due to the carpet being totally soaked. It looks a lot different after mitigation and the amount of mold was really tiny. But my restoration company took out the fans after a week thinking this was going to be resolved and we’ll just replace the carpet. But now the insurance company dicked us around for 3 weeks before denying and the floorboards look kind of wet again. I feel like the adjuster is totally in the wrong for denying coverage of the whole thing but I don’t know what to do next. Can someone give me some ideas or experience what they had to do?

Why the high premium.

I've been shopping for home insurance because I've noticed its got a little high and I've added a large renovated workshop/garage to the policy.

I'm getting wildly different quotes. To the point I've had some reps say they have no idea why its so high.

Currently paying 3400$/yr for house alone and with workshop 3900$/yr.

I'm getting quotes for 1300-1500 for just the house. Some insurance companies are extremely confused about workshop. Why its rebuild cost is so high ect. Don't know how to insure it properly because its not an accessory building if its over 50k$

I'm also getting quotes back for 5300$-6000$ for house and workshop. And the reps are flabbergasted and have no idea why its so high.

Info: house 1400sqft 1.5 story all new exterior and interior. All new plumbing electrical and hvac. New 200amp service. 15 yr old roof that is being replaced. Unfinished basement.

Foundation has been fully water proofed with new drainage and sump pump with backup and alarm.

2 baths.

Original part of house 1887 with addition in 1945.

Town water and sewer

No fire hydrants volunteer fire department less than 1 min away.

Appraised at $550k

Garage/workshop

1800 sq ft barn built in 1937

Extensively renovated

All new water, 100amp hydro service new steel siding and roof.

2 car garage on mainfloor and wood working workshop on second floor.

Forced air heat. Insulated. All new wiring.

Lots of drainage

Roughly 15k$ in tools.

I estimate build cost at a conservative $250k

Located in southwestern ontario.

For personal use only.

Insurance implications of tenants producing monetized content from a rental condo

Question for insurance professionals/brokers/adjusters:

I’m an Ontario condo landlord and I’m trying to understand whether monetized content creation from a rental unit creates insurance issues.

Example: a tenant rents my condo and uses the unit regularly to create online cooking content (YouTube/TikTok/etc.). No restaurant, no customers onsite, but the kitchen is being used heavily as part of their business/income.

My questions are:

  • Would this potentially affect my landlord insurance coverage?
  • Would the tenant need business or commercial coverage beyond normal tenant insurance?
  • Could an insurer deny a claim if the unit was effectively being used for business purposes?
  • Is there a meaningful distinction between “working from home” and “operating a business from the unit” from an underwriting perspective?

I’m less concerned about social media itself and more about the business-use aspect and whether that changes the risk profile of the condo.

I don’t know why I’m so worried? It was an honest mistake

TD car Insurance - can I keep a family member on my car insurance after they move out with my car to a new address in the same city?

My family member (sibling, over 18) lives with me, is listed on my TD car insurance, and drives my car. They would like to move out to a nearby address in the same city and want to take the car with them.

I'd like to keep the car under my policy and keep them as a listed driver. My main questions:

  1. Can I stay as the named insured if the car is primarily kept at their address?

  2. Can my sibling stay on my insurance or do they need to get their own?

Has anyone dealt with a similar situation? Any advice before I call my insurer?

Specific policy for water damage

I’ve had 2 water related claims on my home within the last 4 years. A SBU in March 23 and a burst pipe in May 25. Both claims occurred with Aviva, so I knew the likelihood of renewal would be slim. Just got informed that we will be non-renewed due to the claims, and I don’t think we will be able to find a carrier that will accept us with water damage on the policy.

Obviously having had 2 claims, I want to have that coverage because of how costly it can become. Is there a company that will just insure us for water damage, apart from our standard homeowners policy. Similar to in the states how you can have a home policy, and then have a specific policy for flood damage. I’m not sure if something like this exists here, a google search hasn’t resulted in much. Any thoughts or ideas would be a big help as my renewal is about 30 days away.

[Auto] [ON] FDR 10.5, 10.6, 10.7

Can someone talk me through the reasoning behind these rules? Specifically 10.5 and 10.6. I’m having a hard time getting my head around the justification for them.

The only thing I can possibly think of is that it’s designed for rural roads but even then it doesn’t make a ton of sense to me.

Not sure if this is the appropriate sub but just throwing this out there in case someone knows the policy justification for this.
