Went fishing today at my local spot and decided to bring worms and lures and just feel some things out.

Started with worms. First cast, caught a bluegill. It ate most of the worm. Put on another worm and on the second cast got a few nibbles then something ate the worm but didn’t get hooked.

Then I realized I was out of worms. No big deal! I have lures.

Well after an hour of lures, I had not a single nibble. I even saw a few smallmouth look at them in disgust and swim off.

Pretty soon, I was digging around in the woods with my bare hands looking for worms.

I just wanted one more catch before heading home.

I found a salamander, almost threw that on the hook - then thought better of it.

I found no worms.

The moral of the story? I turned into a bloodthirsty savage pretty quick when it came down to catching fish.

I’m learning to fish again as an adult and everyone says live worms are the best to catch the most fish around here

I feel a little bad putting them on the hook when they squirm with seems like pain.

I’m trying to justify it to myself by thinking “I bought them at Walmart. They are from a worm farm. They are decendents of generations of bait and fish food. This is their purpose.”

Not to mention, the fish steal plenty of them without getting hooked and that feels like it somehow makes it better.

I know this is nuts. Just curious if anyone else ever feels this way.
