Purpose of Hip driver rotation

Purpose of Hip driver rotation

So I am slightly confused with this concept. At what point should the hip driven rotation start? Is it to create room for the pull to move and balance on the opposite arm (not rotate too much that I am completely perpendicular to the bottom of the pool though)

What is the hip or core doing?

One analogy (correct me if I am wrong with this) I have is when someone is crawling on dry land under 🪵 like they do in military training, the core compresses and expands to reach as much as you can but I am unable to grasp when hip rotation should start and end and what’s its intended purpose is. Any intuition for this?

Found this video: is this what I am missing?

Broke my fast 🥺🥺

Was successfully doing IF with two meals only for the past 13 days, gave into my sugar cravings. Had snacks, white rice, and candy all in one go.

I am stressed in life (work related stuff) that leaves me having cravings. I was doing fine until today. Finished my dinner at 6, chicken, veggies, and a cup of quinoa.

Not sure what happened. Just had a rush of cravings.

I plan to continue but would like to avoid future episodes like this. Any suggestions?

Walking boot around the house?

I was given a walking boot to wear for peroneal tendinitis. I was instructed to use it for two weeks. Should I wear it around the house? It’s a pain to use the restroom or take a shower etc. I am wondering taking it off briefly is fine but orthopedic instructed complete immobilization

New releases timeline in 2026

There were a bunch of rumors out earlier in the year but everyone’s mum lately.

I’m saving 10$ per day to buy the next body I fancy. Any idea when the new releases are coming?

Pull timing

Do you pull after the other arm has entered the water or almost glide like a superman, and then start your pull?

I am doing the catchup drill. While I think it’s designed for high elbow during recovery, it’s throwing off my timing for pull. Any help?

Fatigue at the start of workouts for Lean gains

So I am not heavy on carbs. I have persistent mental fatigue when I start my workouts.

I gasp for breath for the first few minutes with a tinge of dizziness, and sleepy feeling . Then after resting a bit, I kinda “wake up”. Is this normal? I’m trying to reason why this is happening

The only hack that worked for me is drinking energy drinks with caffeine which I am trying to cut. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Ankle kicking

I’m pretty sure I hurt my ankles all the while thinking I am kicking from my hips just because I have very slight bend in my knee.

So I have been practicing vertical kicks in the pool for a while, my abductors/adductors are burning up while doing them so I thought I have been practicing well. But translating the same to kicking horizontally I am not going anywhere.

Not only that my right ankle is busted because outside swimming I do lots of PT which involves plyometrics like jumping etc. any suggestions? I don’t want to give up on swimming. I finally found something I truly enjoy after my acl injury

Ankle and foot ortho in houston

I recently hurt my ankle pretty bad. Even after a month of rest, I have persistent pain in the subtalar joint. If anyone had experience with good ankle & foot ortho surgeons. Your help is greatly appreciated. I am coming out of town, and Houston is the closest big city to lookup for medical assistance.

Swimming like a snake with pull buoy

As the title says my freestyle is like a snake around the t line. Think of a sinewave with x axis being the T line. I don’t know what I am doing wrong 😑. Have been working on my high elbow.

I am not even breathing much to be honest until I reach the end of T line to focus on just the catch/pull.

I’m starting to think I should get a snorkel but the technique issue remains. 🛟

High elbow intuition

I’m working on my pull with a focus on high elbow. I have one question about the feel for high elbow. Below I will explain my visualization of how I am doing it which might seem unnecessarily complicated, so bear with me

Timing

After a single pull, there’s a tiny glide after which I would start the pull on the other arm. Now in my observation I cannot prematurely drop my hand trying to get into the high elbow because it would interfere with the glide. So the catch/pull should start when the glide slows down or ends.

Is this correct? If yes, below is my follow up question.

current issue

My pull right now is more of a scoop rather than flapping my elbows to my rib cage like bird.

Why’s that? Cuz I am having a hard time keeping my elbow up and fingers pointing down when arms are extended forward.

I watched a video on YouTube that said let the body catch up to the elbow then pull. Now what does this mean? If i drop my forearm and keep my elbow high won’t it interfere with the glide? Is it even possible to drop just the forearm when arms are extended forward in a streamline in the first place? I feel like the range of motion is very restrictive if I am force-ably tryingto do it

Help me 🥺

Just watched something that blew my mind

I’m learning how to swim (finally figured it out with a lot of help and notes from the amazing community in this sub).

As someone who almost drowned as a kid and having to learn as an adult. I already feel there’s a gap between me and casual swimmers who frequent the pool. Of course olympians are different but one can hope to learn a thing or two.

I can’t seem to gauge how much of a gap exists between us and the athletes here in the video; technique, core power, rhythm etc.

The video makes me wonder if one pursues the same training plan to be able to achieve this, it should be beneficial in the long term for general fitness as well. At least that’s my primary reason for swimming/training these days.

Training like an athlete to the extent possible with your lifestyle is really useful long term. Any thoughts?

Life is at a weird place so far. There are many bad things happening like financial losses, research stagnation, health problems.

Oddly I don’t feel any mental burden despite the adversities. I don’t know how long this last. The best way to put is everything feels at a standstill like a quiet undisturbed lake. Any insights as to what’s going on?
