The Converse Ad Isn't As Bad As People Make it Out To Be (Not an opinion piece)
Hello, first time posting anywhere. I made this account just for this.
I'm writing a school paper about this. The paper is supposed to be as "objective" as possible so I'm not trying to take any sides. I want to get proof from every side and now I'm looking for proof that the attached picture is actually the original photo. I found this from a Facebook post and I don't want to go off that. Converse probably took down every single remaining ad online so I don't really know what the original one is. This one or the cropped one. Maybe both? I'm not sure.
My controversial take on this so I'm allowed to post this here is that the advertisement, from what I can see, is not that bad. People are saying it came from Asia so we shouldn't be caring. Although I haven't found any evidence that this was released only in Asia, it's not right for us to check other countries and make sure that they're obeying our social cues because that's none of their business and it's none of ours. As other people have also claimed that other cultures should be mindful of the injustice going on in the united states. I sure don't see anyone being aware of the slave trade in the middle east and how they're taking advantage of their workers from underprivileged countries like Indonesia, Nepal, or The Philippines.
Furthermore, I do believe that this was a mistake on Converse's side. They're a really big company and they should have looked at it better and understood that individual interpretation usually overpowers the author's intention and it's nice to see a company recognizing that. People don't realize that what they're apologizing for is the oversight and not the intention because I'm sure they did not intend to make it look like a lynching.
I did find this proof that a Black women was appointed as VP of global footwear and design so I have that going but I'm not sure if she's still in that position.
