need help

Need urgent advice for a severely dehydrated tortoise ‼️

for quick context, my grandad quite a few pets including 3 tortoises, him and most of my family live at the other end of the country. He developed dementia this year and has been in and out of hospital, we cannot visit frequently due to not having a car and train fare being too expensive.

We have been calling my auntie and uncles a lot to make sure that his animals are being cared for since he is unfit to look after them now, we were told they were and they’re fine.

My mum and step dad are visiting him for the last time as he doesn’t have long left and they will be bringing his tortoises back home so they will be ours, however when they arrived my mum told me that one of the oldest, around 40, had passed away.

It turns out the person looking after them for some reason did not think to give them water, i really don’t understand it nor do i understand how none of them realised one of the tortoises had been dead for a few days now, it’s extremely disappointing and i’m so sad for my mum as he had been around nearly her whole life. They will be taken back with us and given good proper care.

The youngest is fine, but the other older tortoise shelley is not doing well, she’s never been so ill. My mum managed to get her to open her eyes, she is alive but barely, if there is anything we can do to help her recover and save her i will pass all advice on to my mum asap.

i cannot provide photos because i’m not there myself, i have stayed home to look after our own pets,

need advice urgently

So for context, most of my family, aunties, uncles grandparents etc live on the other end of the country, my grandad developed dementia and due to the distance we cannot visit often, we don’t have a car and train fare here is very expensive.

He has quite a few pets, including 3 tortoises, my auntie and uncles have been looking after his pets due to his dementia and the fact he is in hospital right now, we have been calling them to make sure they have been caring for the animals since we are unable to be there.

Most of the pets are fine, except the tortoises, which we’re going to be given to me and my parents when my grandad passes away, this weekend my parents are down south to visit him and bring back the tortoises, i’m staying home to care for our dogs. My mum told me when she got there that one of the oldest had unfortunately passed away, he was around 40. It turns out whoever had been looking after them didn’t think to give them water as well as food?? I really cannot understand it and my family is devastated since he has been around nearly my mums whole life.

The youngest is fine, but the middle tortoise is not doing good, she is still alive but barely, she managed to get her to open her eyes but she isn’t doing well and not sure if she is going to make it, i want to ask if there is anything we can do to improve her condition and save her, i will pass any advice on to my mum, we are so disappointed in our family for this and i really hope she is able to recover, anything helps, thankyou
