A rare MOTM occurrence: Suárez won it despite Kuyt scoring a hat-trick

Liverpool beat Manchester United 3-1 at Anfield in 2011, with Dirk Kuyt scoring all three goals.Yet Luis Suárez, who didn't score, was named Man of the Match. I can't think of another instance where this ever happened.

That's how good Suárez was that day.

Liverpool Montevideo president José Luis Palma wants Liverpool FC to play the inaugural match at new Belvedere stadium

Liverpool Montevideo are building a brand-new stadium in Belvedere, expected to open in February/March 2028.

Speaking on Uruguayan television today, club president José Luis Palma said he wants Liverpool FC to play the inaugural match at the new stadium. The proposal has not yet been sent to the English club, with Palma saying they want to have the stadium looking its best first.

Liverpool have become one of Uruguay's most successful clubs in recent years, winning 10 major domestic trophies since 2020, including the 2023 league title.

If it happens, Liverpool vs Liverpool in Montevideo for the opening of the new Belvedere would be pretty special.

Ronald Araújo was a striker until he was 17. You can still see it.

For those who don't know, Araújo played as a forward until he was 17, when he was converted into a defender.

You can still see that background when Barça or Uruguay push him forward. He doesn't just go up as a big centre-back looking for a header. He'll actually play like a striker at times, using his body to pivot, bringing wingers into play and making runs into the box.

This was probably the best example of it for Uruguay. He opened the scoring against Argentina in a 2-0 win in Buenos Aires, with Darwin Núñez scoring the second.

Not a bad bit of striker heritage for Liverpool's new centre-back.

The Garra Charrúa returns to Anfield.

With Ronald Araújo now officially a Liverpool player, he becomes the fourth Uruguayan to represent the club after Luis Suárez, Sebastián Coates and Darwin Núñez.

Ronald Araújo and Darwin Núñez as kids – more than a decade before both would play for Liverpool

Found this incredible old photo of Ronald Araújo and Darwin Núñez as kids during a match between Rivera and Artigas in Uruguay.

The original source identifies the two as Araújo and Núñez. At the time, there was obviously no way of knowing that, years later, both would end up playing for Liverpool.

The Hades scene lives rent free in my head

The whole experience felt like a lucid nightmare. Even the movement of the "shapes" was eerie and fascinating. The score is obviously a highlight as well, but I keep coming back to this particular scene just to experience the atmosphere it creates. I don't think I've ever seen a depiction of the underworld quite like this.

I was wondering what everyone else thought.

96 Years Ago Today (1930): Uruguay Came From 2-1 Down to Beat Argentina 4-2 in the First World Cup Final

Ninety six years ago today, Uruguay came from 2-1 down to beat Argentina 4-2 and become the first World Cup champions. It is one of those matches that feels bigger than the result itself because it marked the beginning of the tournament that would become the biggest event in football.

It also completed an extraordinary run for Uruguay, who had already won Olympic gold in the FIFA organized 1924 and 1928 tournaments. Nearly a century later, it remains one of the sport's most significant finals.

My Mount Rushmore of Kaiju Final Battles. What Would You Change?

My personal Mount Rushmore of kaiju final battles. These are the ones that have always stood out to me for their choreography, directions, set design, etc. I put them in chronological order.

Gamera vs. Gyaos (Gamera: Guardian of the Universe)
- It's so ahead of its time and I think it hasn't really been equalled. The Tokyo set they build still blows me away.

Gamera vs. Iris (Gamera 3: Revenge of Iris)
- IMO the most emotional battle in any Kaiju film. Overall stunning, even the air battle that comes before it.

Godzilla vs. Mothra & King Ghidorah (GMK: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack)
- I'm a big Kaneko fan as you can tell, lol. It's such a lively and "anime" feeling battle.

Godzilla vs. Kong (Godzilla vs. Kong)
- Everything, including the "real" final battle that came after, is perfect. Still my favourite of the Legendary films.

Curious to see what everyone else's Mount Rushmore would look like.

[OC] The final minute of the 1950 FIFA World Cup Final between Uruguay and Brazil with the original Uruguayan radio commentary, translated into English

I translated the original Uruguayan radio commentary into English and added subtitles to the final minute of the 1950 FIFA World Cup Final, including the emotional post-match celebrations following the Maracanazo.

I thought English-speaking fans might enjoy experiencing one of the World Cup's most famous moments through the original Uruguayan broadcast.
