Has anyone successfully gotten goodwill compensation from Lincoln?
Hi! Trying to gauge my chances and maybe get tips from anyone that has asked Lincoln for some goodwill and actually received something.
2020 Aviator Black Label Grand Touring, ~60k miles, started throwing codes for the hybrid battery about 2 months ago. Brought it in and the dealer confirmed it, said the car needed a new hybrid battery, and that it would take 2-3 weeks to come in. They said the car was drivable so we kept driving it.
The day before we were to leave on a 2k mile road trip my wife got in the car. She started it and the car immediately told her to pull over and stop safely. She was still in the driveway so no problem. We got it to the dealer and it turned out the issue was the battery, but luck had it that they had just gotten the replacement battery so they went to work. After they got the new battery in, half a day into our trip, it threw more codes and wasn’t going to work. They were going to have to open the battery up and replace a module.
At this point we had to rent a car - our road trip took us across state lines and into another country so a loaner from the dealer wasn’t going to work. We have the extended service contract which would have covered a rental, but this fix was done under the original hybrid powertrain warranty that was still in affect. I called Lincoln (before I knew the new battery was kaput) and they looked into it but just ended up saying there is no rental car coverage for trip interruption.
Once we got back it turned out the fix to the 1st new battery didn’t work and they had to order another one (at $18k per, yikes). So we turned the rental car in and the dealer put us in a loaner. We had that for another week and change before our car was fixed.
All told we were out a missed day of our trip and 10 days of a rental car. I want to go back to Lincoln and ask for some goodwill to compensate us for the cost of the rental car ($1400 or so). I’m open to whatever form that takes. Anyone had any luck with this?
