Relocating is harder than it seems
Hi everyone! I almost never post on reddit but I'm in a desperate situation and looking for some help. It's not a live or die situation but I'd really like some advice, if anybody has been in a similar situation. I graduated college last December and promptly got a new job that following May in my college town. I had a lease that lasted until July and breaking it was not something I could financially do at the time. It was okay though because I had a lot of friends still in the area and still waiting to graduating.
Now it's August, and I find myself very lonely and unfulfilled. I signed a new lease mostly because I couldn't justify switching jobs so quickly, especially being a new grad nurse. But now I am miserable in my college town. I'm dying to move a few hours away to a neighboring city, where I have a lot of friends, there's a lot of stuff to do, and I can have a fresh start away from my college town. The issue is I have this lease that I signed with my friend that goes until next July (a shorter, six month lease wasn't an option). I have the ability to break the lease but I don't know what kind of situation that puts my friend in.
She does not want to move, and I honestly don't blame her. She has her dream job there, and while she doesn't really like the area either, she is willing to do it for the opportunity of a lifetime. I, on the other hand, don't like my job, don't like the area, I'm bored all of the time, and I'd honestly be willing to take a worse job just to leave. But again, I don't know what to do about this lease situation. I don't want her to be stuck with a random roommate that sucks (she also works nightshift) and I don't want her to be stuck paying the rest of my rent.
I could of course just wait it out until July. But I'm so unhappy, and if I can do something to change my situation I feel like I should do that. It doesn't benefit me in any way to waste a year of my life remaining here.
Does anybody have some advice on this?
