I fail to comprehend how the length of a sample is determined.

I like to record a few bars of a song which I then slice evenly and patch/paste them into a track. But those individual samples are then always played too shortly and I don't know why or how to change it so that they play in full - especially before writing them to a step.

I'd like to use those samples as simply as on my KO. Any ideas?
