Announcing Rowbot: a tracker in your browser

A few weeks ago, I launched noodlerack, which is a browser-based modular synth.

This week, I'm back with a tracker in your browser: playrowbot.com

I've always been intrigued by the tracker workflow, even though I'm not very good at it. But I do enjoy playing around with it!

I noticed there wasn't any tracker you can immediately just jump into and start having fun, so here it is. No logins, no ads as always.

Hope you enjoy!

If you could kindly roast this concept

https://youtu.be/wG3qhYWW0Yk

To begin, I'm not a video editor or anything of the sort. I'm just in an experimental pop duo. I just want to show insight into the process of how we make our music (improvisations, cut-up lyrics, in-studio experimentation). I merely place cameras in the room, ignore them while we do our thing, then try to make YouTube videos on DaVinci after the fact.

This particular video tries to show how we mixed our song using a Tascam Portastudio. I used our performance footage taken from previous videos, and I labeled them according to the fader they belong to. Added a lengthy video caption to explain the process, but also put on-screen text at spots.

How does the concept come across?

Early 90s Boom Bap Hiphop

The acapella is Big L.

It was supposed to be a jungle song and was too hard to get together.

Please help me choose: TE OP-1 or Yamaha QY100 or Sonicware Liven Sample

Please help me choose which one to buy. I saw three 2nd hand gears up for sale near me.

  1. Teenage Engineering OP-1 (the original version)

  2. Yamaha QY 100 (with a free midi controller, all for 1/5th the price of the OP-1)

  3. Sonicware Liven Sample (also for 1/5th the price of the OP-1)

Which one should I get? In an alternate world where I'm rich I would have gotten all three of them, but for now, which one should I get first?

For context I enjoy DAWless jamming on the TE Pocket Operator PO33 and on Roland MC 101 (separately, I like playing with 1 instrument at a time) and I like making lofi/chillhop/boombap beats. I would also like to try creating full on songs, ones with lyrics, on a groovebox. So I'd like to try making minus-one/instrumental tracks on the gear that I would buy. Currently I make my lyrical song demos on Bandlab. So that's the workflow I'm currently familiar with.

Which one should I get (first)? Considering the workflow, learning curve, and the fact that the OP-1 is my dream instrument 😆 but hey based on what I've watched so far on Youtube, the QY100 and the Liven Sample are both great instruments too.

Please help me choose! Thank you!!

S&H for creating melody?

I was experimenting with using one looping envelope as the sampling clock for another. Every End-of-Cycle trigger captures the current value of the modulation envelope. Quantizing those sampled values turns a continuous modulation into a melodic sequence.

Small changes to the relationship between the two envelope periods completely change the resulting phrases, even though the patch itself remains very simple.

Then I added another layer by letting the modulation influence the amplitude envelope pattern itself. Since that pattern determines when sampling happens, the melody starts affecting the mechanism that generates it, creating a feedback loop between rhythm and pitch.

I like building systems like this, where musical structure emerges from interactions rather than explicit note programming.

[Jam] Late night flow with my OP-Z, PO-20, Monotron and OP-1f

Long-time lurker, first time posting here!
Not a musician at all but I've been jamming mostly with those gears for a few years esp my opz, l've always kept these sessions to myself.
Decided to finally record a full, uncut 50-minute session last night. It's a bit slow and raw, but l'd love to share the vibe with this community.

4 Hardware Instruments, One Ambient Electronica Jam

I made an ambient/electronica jam inspired by early-2000s electronica, blending rhythmic textures, glitchy beats, and environmental sounds like birdsong and wind.

This was created using four hardware instruments: Bastl Instruments KASTLE DRUM, Torso S-4, SONICWARE LIVEN EVOKE, and Elektron Digitakt.

The idea started when I was experimenting with the KASTLE DRUM running through the Torso S-4 and stumbled upon an unexpectedly immersive groove. It was initially very minimal and abstract, so I gradually added more layers and instruments until it became a complete piece.

Hope you enjoy it. 🎶

Groovy Groovebox

Hello. I am new here but excited about everything I'm seeing.
I am trying to find my peeps, the ones that might be interested in my creation.

It started out as a joke: an eight channel drone featuring only saw waves called the Saws All, made with Rust.

It kind of just kept evolving as I thought of more and more "oh but what if" scenarios.

It's final form:

8 drone channels with optional timing and trigger length controls and LFOs for making unique ambient backgrounds.

8 channel drum synth with lots of modeling controls that use fine tunable beat probabilities rather than sequencing.

2 fuzzy mono synths with 16-64 step sequencers for bass and lead lines. Both featuring virtual keyboard or dynamic ribbon control mode.

All keeping with the saw theme. Drums inevitably took some teeth smoothing.

Lots of fun effects including reverb and side chain pump.

Project and global based scene libraries.

A song mode for compositions.

A performance mode for entertaining.

And a bunch of unique visualizers to enhance your playback experience such as the alien ant colony featured at the beginning of my video.

I will be launching this in July! I hope you get a chance to try it and let me know what you think. Will provide more launch details later.
