Is anyone using a groovebox for ambient/progressive rock/psychedelic music?

I'm wondering if/how I could use a groovebox like the SP404 mk2, as the brains of a setup for synth-based ambient/progressive rock. I'd like to loop stuff, play multisamples (like mellotrons etc), process sound from multiple synths and trigger one-shots. Does anyone use these in this way? Most of the videos I see in YT are techno/house/beat-making stuff.

I've reverse-engineered the ZDL file format

Hey community,

I’ve built a toolchain for developing custom effects for the MS-70CDR pedal series. At this point, the pedals can basically be treated as an open-source coding platform. Right now I’m porting Chris Johnson’s Airwindows plugins step by step.

“Stereo Chorus” is already up and running, sounding flawless so far.

If you want to contribute ports or simply download and use the FX, check out the GitHub repo:

https://github.com/repeat98/ZoomMultistompZDL

Custom ZDL support will be coming with the Zoom Effect Manager 2.3.3 update.
Spread the word, so we get more developers on board to make more FX.

Also, if you have suggestions for effects you’d like to see, leave them in the comments.

Cheers,
J

1010 Bento - disco house.

Here's a mellow disco number. With the Bento as the brain and the JT4000M to add a little extra. I used an NI midi controller to play the notes.

Portable creative sampler suggestions?

hey all,

I've had so much fun with the KOII but ended up selling it since the 128MB storage is a no go.

But this experience shed a light on what I'm looking for: a portable creative sampler with these go to feats:

- portable (must)

- has a sequencer & tracks (nice to have)

- effects can be performed live (ideally only sends in order to retain eventual tails when disegnaged) (must)

- has great sounding effects (must)

- ideally has a song mode too (nice to have)

- I can resample what I'm doing at any time (even if I leave the resampler page - my biggest limitation with my AKAI Mpc One + ) (must)

- has SD card for storage (must)

- has a great sounding warping-pitching algorithm (must)

- battery powered (super nice to have)

_________________________________________

I already know the OP1 Field would tick all of these and more but I just can't justify the price - even second hand. Awesome little machine but no.

Also I've bought the MPC Sample but returned it after a 3 weeks deep dive since to my ears it doesn't sound good due to its subpar warping-pitching algorithm and most of all the bad sounding FXs. (reverb is almost obscene lol)

Torso S4 is the only I've found so far.

anything else comes to your mind?

btw I don't do vinyl sampling or such. I do game audio and do all sorts of experimental stuff with samples

Thanks!!

House transitions part 2

I’ve been experimenting again with different transition techniques on the SP404. This time alternating between samples (same bank) and different drum loops.

Tom and Jerry kids theme re-produced on the Yamaha Seqtrak

After Duck Tales, here comes a theme song from a Hanna-Barbera cartoon series, "Tom and Jerry kids". Took me a while to make it as close to the original as possible.

If you like it, please leave a thumbs-up on YouTube :)

Got a folder full of loops you never touch?

In this video I take some of my heavy guitar loops and flip them into new riffs on the SP-404MK2 without using classic sample chops, but by tweaking the raw sample itself.

This workflow is perfect if you produce on the SP-404MK2 and want to recycle your spare loops into fresh ideas, for any genre!

Have fun!
