Quitting Social Media After Almost 15 Years

30M here. I have been using social media for almost 15 years. Fb, Insta, Reddit, Snapchat, Twitter, Discord nu ellame. Currently I am managing a page in Fb and Insta, a mod for a sub here in Reddit and a mod for a Discord server. And I have now decided to quit all Social Media for some time.

I have connected with many people, and made some good friends here. But prolonged constant usage and exposure to things in social media has exhausted me. Even though it gives people a sense of connection, understanding, and belonging among others, enaku enamo constant use oru void create pannuthunu nenaikren. And I think people are missing that.

I have already ordered a basic button mobile phone on Amazon. Vanthona I'll switch my sim to that. And as my business needs Whatsapp and Upi app, I'm gonna use my Dad's smartphone for that purpose. E-mail um avanga phone la periodical ah check pana plan panni, logged in his phone. And sila vishayangal inum full ah plan panala but I think i can figure it out as I go along.

There's a reason I'm posting this here. One day, I'll come back and talk about what changed in my life after quitting social media. This post is the reference point for that.

I'm leaving for a while. Ciao. Auf wiedersehen 😀

Engeyum Kadhal title song

Engeyum Kadhal title song la Thamarai eluthuna intha lines romba pudikum.

"யார் யாரை எங்கே நேசிக்க நேர்ந்தாலும்.... அங்கே பூந்தோட்டம் உண்டாகும்... பூச்செண்டாய் பூமி திண்டாடும்"

The more we love, the more we get loved... We create separate flower gardens each time. And the flowers from those gardens get collected and a bouquet is formed. Not a simple bouquet, a huge bouquet to be the size of Earth itself 😊

Hi. 30M from Madurai here. So this has been sitting in my mind for almost 2 decades, only one person in my life knew what happened. Kind of long, pls bear it.

I was se*ually abused at a young age, when I was 6-8 years old by a family member who was supposed to protect me. Se*ual abuse is a decorative safe word for what I went through. At that age i didn't know what it was and I was bm by the person. They said they would k*ll my parents if I ever said it and I literally believed that. I don't wanna go into what happened, how it happened and how it ended. It ended when I was around 8 years old.

After that I began to withdraw socially. As i was a studious bright student my parents or teachers didn't notice that as I was performing well and I really was good at suppressing what I went through because i was ashamed and confused. Social withdrawal grouped me into "Introvert" while I was severely afraid of people.

The more I grew, the more I became reserved and the less I let people in. And I began to observe people more than normal because I didn't know what people were hiding in them. And when I came of age it ruined my studies because I was confused more of se*uality and I had to settle less than my potential. My parents thought I was distracted due to teenage but in reality it wasn't.

As I was withdrawing from people, I began to feel like an outcast and never belonged anywhere. As I was fond of movies from childhood, in my late teens and earlier 20s, I was much into movies and series. It was the one place I belonged and loved, so I started to write in FB, a movie page saw it and made me as it's editor. I started to post memes and write about movies on the Fb page, which helped me somewhat to connect with people.

And I also had a GF (Ex now). She is the only one who knows. She is a Doctor by profession. When we met at a mall, she held my hand but i suddenly jerked and pushed her hand away. She thought I was being shy at public. Then one day, when we kissed for the 1st time, unconsciously I began to cry and shiver. Even when she stopped kissing, I couldn't stop crying and shivering. All I had in my mind was what happened in my childhood. When she tried to comfort me, I pushed her away. It took some 30 mins for me to calm down. And I apologized for my behaviour and I confessed what happened in my childhood. As she was a doc, she helped me a bit to overcome my fear. Unfortunately we broke up after a 6 year long relationship. It was mutual and it happened due to the difference in our profession.

Even though my ex helped me a bit, the psychological impact it made in childhood about people never changed. I yearned for connection while the fear never let me to properly connect with people. Even if someone became close, I began to either withdraw or invest more with them, which resulted in getting people hurt. People either couldn't understand me or i couldn't convey what I had in my mind to them. I lost valuable people over this. While people thought I was being an as*hole or freak or a difficult person to speak with I was heavily suffering due to what I went through.

I am getting professional help now and I have been better for a week. I wrote this here because I hope if someone is going through any of this, get some help. Don't let it destroy it from within you.
