My child (15) school class has a pet, a giant land snail. It was apparently 'donated' by a teaching assistant who had grown bored of it. I'm led to understand it is not being cleaned out often, if at all. My child says the tank really stinks and has lots excrement in it. Staff have said it will be cleaned after half term (which is two weeks).
My child's concerns are being dismissed. (It's clear the teacher has issues with my vegan child) I feel no one cares because it's just a snail. I personally hate the slimey crop munching ba***rds, but it's a living creature, and should be cared for appropriately. If a 'cute' animal was kept like this, I'm sure it would be different.
What should I do?
Edit: I have emailed the head teacher. School closes on Friday so if i dont hear back tomorrow, i will phone the school. The school is a specialist SEN school so the children are less able to commit to any sort of animal care schedule. I know nothing of snail care but feel perhaps I need to learn now
