Safety gear for new riders

New rider. No real community outside of here so…..

What should I be looking for in safety gear? Actual brands would help. As I search, or just pursue IG there are endless ads for gear, but which stuff is actually good? What gear will actually keep me painting the road in skin?

There seems to be a ton out there and they can’t ALL be the best.

Obviously this is coupled with good education and habits, but gear will matter at some point.

New triumph choices

So I’m looking at a couple 900 scramblers as a first bike. 2017, 2019 and 2022.
Pretty sweet deal on the 17 and 22 (I VIN checked them)

From what I can find, it looks like shotgun exhaust and other mods are more readily available for the 17. Is that actually the case?

I’d really like to 2022 due to the engine upgrades triumph made from 2019 on.

Thoughts? Advice? Reassuring words that I’ll find plenty of bad a$$ mod parts for a 22?

Slip tip (no, not THAT)

Where are people finding shotgun exhaust slip tips for for newer scramblers?(2022). All I’m finding are ones compatible with like 2013.

New rider deciding on first triumph

I’m sure this gets covered A TON here but I wanted to solicit some advice.
I’m 46. 210lbs. 6’ 2”. New rider looking for a good first timer bike. I’ve pretty much narrowed it down to triumph. (They’re just so damn pretty!)

I LOVE the look of the green scrambler 400 but I’m a little worried I’ll grow out of it quickly for that kill suffer on short hwy commutes.

From what I read, the 400 and 900 can both be great beginner bikes.

My questions are:

  1. Is a scrambler ok for mostly road use? Or should I be looking at the street version?

  2. Given my size, will the 400cc be powered enough to have long term fun on? Or is it better to go for the 900?

Overall I’m trying to approach this safely. I don’t want to get a bike that’s going to put me in a bad position as a rider (too much power for a newbie, not really designed for road use, etc.)

I do LOVE the looks of the scrambler but wanna make sure I’m making a sound choice.

Thoughts?
