Thoughts on the name Calvin for our son?
Help me like the name Calvin.
We had a short list of names picked out for our boy and were going to chose once babys here. We'll babys here and I realized that my husband has a very strong preference for the name Calvin. He has loved this name since grade school and always wanted to name his son this. Also my husband and his dad have the same initials, CDO. My husband wants to carry the tradition and do the same for his first son.
I dont hate the name, I like it but there were others I liked more and figured we'd chose. I liked Issac, Elias, Levi and Zachary more. I care about meanings of names and I do kinda hate that Calvin means bald, and also that it's not a very internationally friendly name - but my husband says baby can always go by his middle name David in another country, just like my husband does.
I want to say yes to the things that are important to my husband. He's not putting his foot down and saying we have to use Calvin but I know he'll be disappointed if we dont. Its basically either we go with a name that I dont really care for and hopefully get used to, or a name he doesnt really care for. So we might as well let this be special for him. We considered Caleb to keep the CDO initials but have a better meaning - but neither of us love the name so we might as well use Calvin. There's not another C name we love more.
Its a nice enough name right? Common enough to be familiar but not overly used. I want a strong classic name for our son. When we picked our first born daughters name we took forever to agree on a name, but if God blesses us with any more kids I'm naming the next one lol. Please give me your honest feedback on the name Calvin.
Have you ever chosen a name you weren't 100% in love with, and then came to love it as you got to know your baby?
