Ideas for a vinyl mixing dj competition -

Greetings.

Recently I went out to a techno night and almost left early because the music was mediocre and watching most controller djs is boring. Then a headliner came on playing an all vinyl set. Even though the music wasn’t great I stayed another 2 hours watching him mix.

This made me think it would be great to see a mixing competition similar to the original DMCs (check out the pre turntablist/hip hop comps from the early 80s). The next day I happened to see a clip of Theo Parrish dissing digital DJs (“cheating with training wheels” or similar) and referenced informal mixing competitions he participated in as a kid in Chicago.

From what he described they would try to find the pitch fastest, most seamlessly, while holding the mix longest and EQing the longest.

Has anyone seen something like that? Would anyone be interested in a mixing competition and if so what ideas would you have on challenges and structure?
