Planning a trip to Munnar next month and I really want to do the whole thing by bus - partly budget, partly because I actually enjoy the ride. Problem is, I've been digging around online for days and there's shockingly little clear info on this specific route. Figured the CBE crowd would know best.

A few things I'm trying to figure out:

• Direct or connecting? Is there a direct bus from Coimbatore to Munnar, or do I have to change somewhere (Pollachi / Udumalpet / Marayoor)?
• Which bus stand? Should I head to Ukkadam, Gandhipuram, or Town for Kerala-bound buses?
• TNSTC vs KSRTC — which is more reliable / comfortable for this route?
• Journey time — roughly how many hours does it take door to door?
• Best time to start — early morning vs overnight? Want to catch the ghat views if possible.
• Booking — anything I can book online in advance, or is it turn-up-and-go at the counter?
• Scenery — heard the Marayoor / Chinnar stretch is stunning. Anything I shouldn't miss on the way?

Bonus points for return-journey tips and how early the buses tend to fill up.

Paid up, and my River Indie lands in 3 days. One problem: I wanted the closed/enclosed phone mount (the kind that actually covers and protects the phone), but the store only has the open one in stock with no timeline for the closed version.

Has anyone fitted a third-party closed mount in the same spot as the stock River mount? Looking for what actually fits and where you bought it. Recommendations very welcome!
