Ellie the House Wren watches a thunderstorm

It has been so interesting to watch my little house wrens, Carl and Ellie, over the last couple weeks! I'm really enjoying the nesting and brooding process. Ellie just laid her sixth egg this morning! 🥰 Really rooting for these guys.

Help! House Sparrow stalking nest box!

My house wren finally found a mate and they have ramped up their nest construction over the last 24 hours, but a female house sparrow has been stalking the box today. It's too late to open the box and change the hole size. Can you tell me the quickest and least intrusive way to help protect them? 😭 Thank you!

Could this be a female house wren?

I've had a male house wren in and out for *weeks* now, bringing in twigs. Sometimes he'll disappear for a while and then randomly return. I've gone back from Nesting to Prelude like three times now because I thought he'd abandoned it. 😂

Over the last couple days, though, he's been back, but with a much different vibe. More frantic and quick in collecting twigs and more particular about where/how they're situated, including this kind of wing flutter, which I've seen female birds do. Is it possible my guy finally found a mate and I'm actually seeing the female wren now?? I know they look basically identical, so I'm trying to tell through the behavior. Also I think I see some spider egg sacs in there now, which I've read can be a hallmark of house wrens who plan to stay. I'm trying to temper my expectations since it has been so inconsistent, but maybe it's actually happening??

Still time to reduce hole size?

Hi! Hoping for some advice. After weeks of bluebirds checking out but ultimately passing on my Nest Duo, a house wren has started to move in (we've named him Carl). I'm psyched, but because we were originally hoping to attract the bluebirds, we have the medium sized hole mounted on the box. Is it too late to put on the small one, to give more protection from potential house sparrow action? Will it scare him away if I mess with anything now?
