Anyone else never capture anything at night?

We have the birdfy feeder pro 2. At night we get lots of moments recorded and 100% of the time it is a recording of nothing. the only night vision setting we have is the light, no infrared or anything. The light is on max but we don’t see anything. is this common? Why is it recording moments of nothing? I keep getting excited to see something at night finally and it’s always nothing at all

House Sparrow CHAOS

Hi fellow birders! I’m a bit new to this hobby and I set up my new birdfy feeder about a week ago. In the days since set up I have an overwhelming amount of House Sparrow’s (and their fledglings) attending my feeder, but ZERO other species. I know sparrows are known to be fairly aggressive birds so maybe this is a deterrent for other birds? Does anyone have any tips, advice, or suggestions to attract other birds?

I’m using black oil sunflower seeds, located on Vancouver Island. Bird pics for tax!

Birdfy Bath Pro Issues

Not sure if its just my luck but I've had a terrible experience with the bird bath pro. I originally had bought the one without the stand, got it replaced multiple times by support due to the same reoccurring issue to the point that support just decided to refund me because replacing wasnt fixing the issue. I decided to buy the version with the stand only just to see if it made a difference. No change, same disconnection issue. Now my last replacement unit has water condensation inside the camera lens. I kept telling birdfy tier 2 support that the disconnection issue happens with these cameras that do not have external wifi antenna. This issue does not happen on the birdfy cameras I own that has an antenna. That fell on deaf ears, support just continued to replace my units with the same issue happening on every replacement camera. Its by the far the only birdfy product that I own that I can not rate above 1 star. 5 stars for the support team but this hardware just isn't ready for primetime. Not sure if anyone else has had the same experience but I guess I will have to wait until they release a new model that has an external antenna.

Simple ways to prevent nesting birds overheating & dying during hot weather.

Hey folks, recently one of our sub members, through absolutely no fault of their own, lost 3 nestling chickadees due to heatstroke during hot weather - incredibly tragic because they were healthy & ready to fledge. I wanted to make a simple list of suggestions as to how you can minimize the risk of nestlings dying during hot summer weather. The inside of a nest box is usually 10 - 15 degrees hotter than the outside temperature, meaning temperatures that get to the mid 80s see a nest box at around 100 degrees - extremely dangerous for baby birds. The good news is you can mitigate this in a number of ways, I'll list them below & please use any that could be of benefit in your particular situation.

  • When choosing a box look for a thick wooden nestbox that has ample ventilation & no dark colors. The best ive seen is the "Kettle Moraine cedar super bluebird box" for example.

  • Placement: Look to place nest boxes somewhere with afternoon shade if possible.

  • Nest boxes with dark colors - nest boxes that have any dark colors will trap excessive heat. Any part of your box that is dark should be painted white using a low voc exterior paint. If you own a dark colored nestbox please voice your concerns to the manufacturers - these are killing birds during summer months when it's so easily prevented by offering light colored designs instead.

  • umbrellas 🌂 : You can shade your birdhouse by rigging up an umbrella to the back- uv reflecting umbrellas work best to deflect heat (choose a light colored one) & can be strapped on using bungee ties or drilled in using brackets. An even simpler way to provide shade is to purchase a patio umbrella with its own stand & have that shading the bird house.

  • Gel ice packs: On days where temperatures get to over 80 degrees (which would be 95 degrees inside of the bird house) simply place an ice pack on the roof of the house - or even a bag of frozen peas or veg would work.

If anyone has further information to add that can help reduce birds dying from heat related stress please add your suggestions & what's worked for you.

Nest - constant false alarm moments

2 or 3 times a day I get notifications I have guests, and lo and behold they are false alarms. Disappointing to think I have birds checking out the box when nothing is happening. These products when they work provide a great experience but for many reasons they are very flawed. I wish Birdy would get their sh*t together.

Customer Service

Hi friends my brand new bird bath is not recording events. I know this because I have two other cameras on the bird bath that clearly show birds bathing. I was so excited about this bird bath but it simply doesn't work. Not even when I go and wave my hand in front of the camera. I emailed birdfy three times now and have heard nothing back. Please help!

No Hummingbirds

Anyone have any Ideas? I previously had a glass (dark red) feeder and had many guests. I switched to the Birdfy Hum Duo and now no visitors. Same mix 4/1 (bakers sugar/water). It's located on my rail on my back deck. I did have to move it over about 15 feet from where the glass one was originally located due to mounting the solar panel. I think I'm going to add some hanging floral baskets on each side next and see if that helps.

Update: I added a hanging basket of red petunias on one side and yellow and red zinnias on the other side and today I had three visits today (even with the intermittent rain) from ruby-throated hummingbirds.

I'm guessing the birdfy duo by itself wasn't very appealing. Hopefully, I'll get more as the weather improves the next few days.

☹️

I'm so upset. I think I have lost another chick. It's been in the 90s the last 2 days and it has been in this corner for an hour. The other 2 have moved around, panting.

I'm beyond happy. After the failed Titmouse eggs, it seems our sweet Bluebirds are building a nest. They started today!

Fricken squirrel 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

Has anyone had a squirrel do this to their hummee extension? Unfortunately this is the only place I can put my feeder (on a tree) so the squirrels get into the feeder and I normally don’t care but I’m very unimpressed cause I don’t think I can get replacements
