My Version of Al's Speech to Hearst

I like to put myself in the position of fictional characters and game out how I'd deal with a quandary. As such, this, fwiw, is how I'd have spoken to Hearst if I were Swearengen:

Mr. Hearst, I, a diminutive man of modest ambition, have built myself a small position of which I'm intensely proud. And when giants and titans occasionally stride through my neighborhood, I can withstand errant bits of accidental trampling, holding no desire to challenge or obstruct my betters in their offensive posture.

But if such a demigod turns his all-powerful eye toward my house, choosing to interfere and harass merely for mirth-making, I'd have no choice but to defend what little I have with everything I've got. And if, in my paucity, I'm able to return some level of harassment and interference - though it'd give me scant mirth - I'd proudly take that petty victory to a premature grave.

Extra Good Butter

I'm a big fan of Nova Açores milk, which you can find in the bio section of Pingo Doce, Auchan, etc (their non-bio milk is just as good, but harder to find). Really worth the extra few pennies. Highly recommended!

The same company makes butter, supposed to be great. "Manteiga Nova Açores Com Sal Gourmet". It's listed on the web sites for Continente, Auchan, and Pingo Doce, but I can't find it in stores, and no way I'm ordering butter online in June/July!

Has anyone seen it in-store anywhere?

Madau Plot

English Wikipedia has no entry for the Madau plot (aka Lilly–Madau plot).

I was going to create one (seemingly long overdue!), but then I googled to see which name was more common, and found that each has only 6 or 7 pages of results.

I understand one can easily discuss star formation timelines without referencing their work, but my understanding was that their paper was massively influential. But Wikipedia and Google appear to disagree, so is my understanding wrong? Or is something else going on?

I think it goes without saying that Madau plot does deserve a Wikipedia entry, but what's up with that gap + the modest online references?

Freezer Bags

Has anyone tried their double-seal zipper freezer bags? I'm looking for something more heavy-duty than supermarket brands.

Commercial Laundering Bulky Down Items

I found this laundry (both wash and dry clean) in Faro that specializes in down comforters/pillows/duvets. They seem to service a lot of high-end hotels. I'm not sure if they wash that stuff or dry clean it.

Can anyone recommend a laundry further north (Lisbon or the south-of-bridge zones) that does a good job on bulky down stuff? I don't want clumping, etc.

Parsing The Al/Hearst Cage Match

Please tell me if I’m getting this right.

George Hearst staged a killing at The Gem as an influence play, disrespecting Al.

Al objected, but modestly and collegially enough that Hearst graciously allowed some revenge, so long as Al proved intelligent enough to figure out the cryptic note (if not, then Al was not a worthy potential asset, so the hell with him).

Al figured out the note, got his revenge, and Hearst made his ask (intel to help him grab Alma’s claim). Al got lightly sassy with him, showing that he’d be no asset at all, breaking what Hearst saw as a chain of respect

Carrot ineffective, Al was shown the stick.

Is that about right? I’m not speaking to later events, just to this interplay as it unfolded.

Decent Way to Sell Tech

I’ve tried the usual places to sell second-hand tech, but response is usually from deluded bargain hunters (“Will you take 35€ for your Apple Studio Monitor?”) or sweaty scammers. Nobody bites even if I price very fairly, and the whole thing feels shady.

Is there a better route? As-is, I usually trek to UK or Spain to upgrade iPhone/iPad via Apple trade-in….but that won’t work for computers, monitors, and other tech.

Bolt says 2 min arrival before paying and 15 min arrival after paying

I tell Bolt my destination.

It estimates a 2 or 3 minute driver arrival.

I pay.

I'm immediately told the driver will arrive in 15 or 20 minutes.

If I cancel, they threaten a penalty.

I understand the logistical issues. But how is this not fraud given that I have no option to refuse a hugely delayed ride? Or am I doing something wrong?

EDIT: I've pieced things together from some of the good replies. What's happening is that I'm asking for long rides (across the river), and drivers thirsty for the high fares are jumping on from far and wide, making me await their arrival.

It LOOKS like the trick is to cancel within two minutes (which most agree can be done without punishment). It's still an open question whether I can cancel a bunch of times on the same ride — as the problem repeats as far-flung drivers get attracted to the high-paying job — but I'll give it a shot.

Mac on Different Synch Track Than iPhone and iPad

Newbie here. I pay for Obsidian synch.

While I'm logged into the same Obsidian account on Mac, iPhone, and iPad, and with Obsidian synch chosen on all three (I think!), iPad and iPhone synch with each other but Mac is out of the loop.

I have very little data, so it's easy to wipe clean and start over if necessary.

Help?

EDIT: figured it out. There seem to be two ways to create vaults: via "manage vaults" or via "synch". There is surely a way to enable synch for vaults made the first way, but it's far simpler when they're made the second way. So that's what I did. And it's working.
