Upcoming deals - new info inside

I was picking up a few items today on the way to work and the associate showed me some upcoming sales information. Take this as officially unofficial information, but from a store source (he told me to go ahead and take a pic)

HD M12 3/8" Stubby impact kit hack (2562-21)- reasonable?

I am looking at https://www.homedepot.com/p/Milwaukee-M12-FUEL-12V-Li-Ion-Brushless-Cordless-Stubby-3-8-in-Impact-Wrench-Kit-w-1-5-0-Ah-High-Output-Battery-2562-21/330838850 with the 3/8 ratchet to bring the kit down to $208.53. Outside of Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales this seems (to me) to be a good deal but not having a comparable CamelCamelCamel or Keepa for Home Depot makes it a bit more challenging for price history.

I just got in the $159 package from last week and I have the deal on 2 5ah XC batteries coming in on Monday, so I guess this is my opportunity to move into the M12 ecosystem.

Thoughts on this price for the impact and battery package?

Yukon 20" toolbox - surprisingly roomy

Long post ahead - you have been warned. TL;DR - the Yukon 20" toolbox is pretty nice and can hold a lot of stuff. For the "use your tools!" crowd, I have my order on the way from RockAuto. Don't worry.

I know the Yukon 20" toolbox doesn't get nearly as much love as some of the Packout style systems, but I wanted to put something together that did the following:

  • Covered most maintenance and repair tasks for my Outback. Sockets and wrenches are specific to my car, so there are skips and this is metric only.
  • Be portable enough to take this where I needed. I don't have a garage (townhouse) so I need to use the garage at my girlfriend's house. I keep the Daytona jack and jack stands there as well.
  • Stored most of my tools outside of some specialty items (1/2" Bauer impact driver, Icon split beam torque wrench, Quinn torque adapters). Other specialty items, such as my Maddox caliper set or Orion Motor Tech Wheel Hub Removal Tool Kit, can be thrown into one of my Bauer boxes when it comes time to deal with wheels and brakes.

I have the Bauer modular system, but the one thing I hate is the lack of printable inserts. I am learning Fusion360 to try to make a few dividers and other accessories, but that takes more free time than I have in the evenings. I want to have nicely organized socket rails and the Bauer boxes don't make that very simple. For now, I have one of the Franklin folding hand trucks to help haul this and any overflow bag with specialty parts/tools.

Yes, this is a heavy beast. That's why I wouldn't plan to carry it by hand over long distances. I am putting on some heavier side handles to help with lifting it. I am planning on riveting them to the sides. It's about 70ish lbs when I weighed it. But this also includes 3 power tools, batteries, and all three sizes of torque wrenches.

I went through the Outback forums, Reddit, and a little Grok prompting to reconcile some toolkits and get to this current packout. I have my roadside bag in the car and that also has my OBD2 scanner, tire repair kit, inflator, etc. After spending $720 on a wheel bearing, I decided to YouTube my way through the rest of this car's life.

This doesn't cover oil changes (although it could) because that's such a PITA job to handle disposal of the old oil, the mess I will inevitably make, and only minor cost savings over a big convenience factor. Sue me.

As you can see, this is heavy into PLS, ITC, coupons, and freebies. I've "saved" a ton by being a member.

I do have some Hyper Tough items in here, so some may call me a Walmart plant. Whatever. Some of their new tools are pretty nice (like the ratcheting wrenches). An 8mm-19mm no-skip set for $39 with 90 tooth ratchets is hard to beat. Even on sale, the Icon set is still $130, and I don't do Icon-level work. I can break 3 more sets of these and still be ahead.

It would be nice to have the space for a big box, but this will have to do for now.

I also 3D printed a few items, such as the socket extension holders (with magnets), ratchet holders, and I am working on adding a magnetic nitrile glove box holder for the back. An Icon magnetic mat or a Hyper Tough magnetic mat fits well on the back of the toolbox.

All of this fits in the toolbox (and closes fully). None of the drawers get stuck due to being stuffed and all drawers lock. I was suprised how much I could fit.

Bauer modular toolbox STL/M3F files?

I've checked a few of the main sites (Printables, Makerworld, and Cults3d) but there is a distinct lack of files available for the Bauer modular system. I was hoping for either baseplates or connectors in order to DIY a few things. I'm working on some bases for the 2 drawer units, but it's a lot of trial and error since I am not a CAD guy. I guess it's time to really work on some Fusion3d skills.

Has anyone come across any files for these boxes yet? I know they will never be nearly as popular as the Packout line, but since we are generally a bunch of stingy SOBs in this subreddit (otherwise we'd be flashing our Kinipex, Milwaukee, and SnapOn bling) I figured we would all be 3D printing the heck of things.

If you have found anything useful please drop a link. Otherwise I will keep plugging away and brute forcing some ideas.

Bauer 1/2" impact: tool vs. kit

I am looking at the new Bauer 20v kit and the Bauer 20v tool only and I can't tell if the tool has changed or if it was just the addition of a new battery/charger than on the older one. I don't need the new battery and charger, but for only $25 more than the tool, I was thinking of going for it if the stock remains low near me. I would rather not apply one of my 20% off purchases toward an older tool.

Looking at the specs didn't help because the descriptions seem to be the same but the measurements are not.

NTD - Mystery open box edition

I found this on the shelf today and it’s 100% complete. No idea why it was discounted since none of the tools were used. It looks like someone tried to open it and maybe the associate saw the parts spot and thought someone stole a socket out of it. I’m not going to complain.
