Great repair story

Took my '92 out for some errands a few days ago. Freeway cruising, AC on, all right with the world. Then: dead. Oil pressure light and no power. Had it towed to a shop for diagnosis.

This shop is transitioning from VW repair to working on more niche vehicles of various makes and only recently agreed to take on the stuff I can't do myself on this old beast. They hadn't really seen one. I got a call a few hours after I dropped off the car and the tech was positively giggling.

His exact words: this thing is a hoot! He was overjoyed at the simplicity and rugged construction. The timing belt had snapped, and he had just researched the repair and learned how easy it is. The price was half what he'd usually charge. I've done one before so I let them tackle it. Less than 30 hours off the road total.

He and I chatted for twenty minutes when I picked it up. I may have gathered him into the fold. :)
